It cant be that the number of jobs on the whole has risen, can it?

  2. Dave

More blatant, blatant lies to stir up more xenophobia and hatred. But I like the idea of workers swelling up to double their normal their size

  3. Original Paul

Without them the NHS and many other public services would collapse.

  4. Steven

Current unemployment figures for the UK are 1.97 million, almost half the figure claimed that foreign workers have taken up. So if we kicked them all out and every single unemployed person decided to take up employment (of which of course a large amount are neither inclined or skilled enough to do so), we’d still have another 1.8 million vacancies minimum unfilled and our hospitals, transport networks and service industries would collapse as a result.

  5. Paul

How many of them are Aussies and Kiwis I wonder?

You know, the ones that the Mail and Express don’t get their knickers in a twist about because they are white, Christian, English speakers.

Because foreign workers are bad when they come from outside the Commonwealth (sorry, the white countries of the Commonwealth…)

  6. aljardi

I share the sentiments of Dave’s post. More Xenophobia and labour bashing.

How many Britons work abroad (and in non EU countries)?

Perhaps this figure should be quoted.

  7. Sarah

The reply of every Daily Mail reader: “ZOMG LOCK THE DOORS! LOCK THE DOORS! THEY’RE OUTSIDE THE EU! THAT’S TEN TIMES WORSE THAN IN THE EU! I DON’T KNOW ANY COUNTRIES OUTSIDE THE EU!”

The article is nothing more than implying bullshit. The Mail basically goes:

Ok so we have this many people losing jobs, Ok? Now look at the number of migrants.Looking? THEY’RE TAKING ALL OUR JOBS RUN!

Uninformative article on migration from the Mail.

    But what do you expect?

  8. Steven

Also, although ‘foreign workers double under Labour’, they neglect to mention that the actual number of total jobs has also increased massively under Labour, as has the number of Britons working in the EU, so if you look at the real figures and are trying to pin this on Labour, net employment, including that solely of British citizens has actually gone up compared to the previous Tory administration, even with a recession underway, So hooray for Labour!

  9. Kate

Dipped into today’s Mail Online as a break from essay writing and wished I hadn’t pressed my nose against the menagerie as reading the most read headlines makes you despair: I got to stories about a drug-crazed chimp and a child-eating croc (both v sad I know) and thought I was reading the National Enquirer.

Of course, this being midweek, there’s lot of cheap Femail copy ripped off the trash mags too.

PS: Does anyone how any ideas about why the DM seems soooo obessed with female newsreaders? On second thoughts, maybe I don’t want to know…

  10. Sarah

In fact I would prescribe THIS article from the Times which is very informative on the subject

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/politics/article5712660.ece

  11. Matt Smith

Surely Daily Mail readers must be the first people to realise that we have an aging population, and need foreign workers to plug the welfare gap so that they can all have their lovely state pensions.

On another note, I found a BNP advert on the Mail Online today. It seems they’ve given up on being subtle about it now.

  12. Dave

Wonder what Littlejohn’s take is on the BNP advert. He claims to loathe them….

  13. Sarah

They were advertising the BNP on the Mail online? Eh, PCC anyone?

  14. Dave

I keep thinking PCC has something to do with PC :-) Politically Correct Commission?

  15. Uponnothing

I wonder if the Mail complained during WW2 that foreign soldiers fought for Britain… you know, as they keep heaving out war DVDs with every toilet roll.

  16. Steven

Good luck with the PCC complaint – Dacre’s the chairman!

Such a fucking farce, it’s like Al Capone also being Police Commissioner, and why the press in this country needs urgent reform.

  17. Al

Just reading “Red Saint, Pink Daughter”, biography of Silvia Rodgers, a Polish-Jew who escaped from Berlin in 1939. Vivid descriptions of how the German press vilified Poles and other foreigners during the depression years. The front page of today’s Mail is a perfect example of how national attitudes are manipulated.

  18. DBC

Today’s Times is reporting that up 1,500 infirm and elderly white people will be coming here from Zimbabwe. I bet there will be no complaints about this from Mail readers, even though it seems that most of these people won’t be paying any taxes, and will have to use the resources of the NHS and social services.

  19. NJH

The subline implies that it would be larger if we weren’t in the EU: is that a pro-Euro stance from the DM?

  20. Cloned Poster

You know if they actually went with the Jowell/husband corruption stuff as the main headline, I might have bought the paper today, so they hate nu-labour?

  21. daveyp.

Steven…number crunching clearly isn’t your scene, curiously enough for such a champion of science. You point out that there are some 1.97 m. people unemployed. Well, if only half the jobs taken by foreign workers had gone instead to British workers, as they should have done, that’s unemployment solved. And besides, many of those on the dole have come here since 1997 anyway! Unemployment in this country is mainly the fault of greedy employers and liberal/left pro-immigration enthusiasts. The phrase ‘unholy alliance’ springs to mind.

AND there is no reason why the story should mention those Britons working abroad. It was about employment in this country, not that of other countries. Good journalism surely involves sticking to the subject.

  22. TonyB

Foreign workers from outside the EC … Amanda Platell, John Torode …

  23. Steven

Daveyp – Clearly neither number crunching or READING or your scenes. I clearly stated that if all the foreign workers were kicked out, it would solve unemployment (apart from of course those that can’t/won’t work) and leave 1.8 million job VACANT leading to the collapse of our economy and society – especially as a huge number of those would be doctors and nurses.

I notice that not a single other poster had a problem understanding me, which just goes to show how thick you are generally which extends to your posts.

  24. Dee

    DaveyP

Quote: And besides, many of those on the dole have come here since 1997 anyway!

Where did you get that info from?

  25. Steve

    They took our jobs!

  26. Uponnothing

    Daveyp

Why should those jobs have gone to British workers?

In a global world employers want to employ the best person for the job, regardless of race or country.

What about the millions of people working in sweatshops around the world so we can buy jeans for £4 in Primark, or a pair of football boots for £20 made in Vietnam, should they also be vilified for taking jobs away from British industry?

Or do you simply want the best of all worlds, you want Britain to retain its massive corporations formed under the gunboat imperialism of the British Empire, import cheap products from other countries (because those products made in the UK would be too expensive for us and we would complain) yet somehow ban globalisation from having any impact on the UK by shutting our borders and banning overseas workers?

As already pointed out, your simplicity in stating that unemployment would be solved by removing foreign workers is staggering – how do you know those 1.97million people are actually employable, or suitable (or willing) to fulfill the positions vacated by chucking out any foreign workers?

Chances are they would be underqualified for many of the positions, and would (no matter how dubiously) consider themselves overqualified for many of the positions in the services sectors that are currently largely reliant on foreign labour.

The strange thing is a lot of jobs being lost in industry are being lost in foreign owned companies, Mini, the Japanese car firms etc, should we all feel guilty that those factories were in the first place stealing jobs from indigenous Japenese people?

Or do we ignore this aspect of globalisation as it benefits us?

Corporations move to whichever country is best suited to their requirements, simple as that. That is the free market that is supposed to be so beneficial for all parties, and was firmly smacked into are faces by Maggie Thatcher, New Labour are simply picking up the reigns.

Still, all this requires thought and understanding, far better of the tabloid newspapers to simply blame the bloody foreigners.

‘If you’re not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.’ ~Malcolm X

  27. Asylum Seeker

“Well, if only half the jobs taken by foreign workers had gone instead to British workers, as they should have done, that’s unemployment solved. And besides, many of those on the dole have come here since 1997 anyway!”

Foreign workers are taking jobs from foreign benefit recipients?

Damn son, that was stupid. Your second sentence, no doubt ripped wholesale from the Daily Mail, contradicts the first one. You fail at logic.

  28. Field Marshall Super ted (retired)

    Well said DaveP sir!
When will the simple-minded, Islamist, marxist, PC, pro-sodomy brigade realise that immigration is the most heinous of crimes. Unemployment, a subject which has always deeply concerned me and my fellow mail readers, can only be solved if we kick out sambo and his polish pals! The effects of 12 years of a communist labour government has seen darkie rise far and beyond his station! I don’t pay tax so the filthy foreigner can steal a living from this ‘Broken-Britain’…..to be honest I don’t pay tax at all, but my cleaner does and i have no doubt she would be furious if she could speak english!!

I think all foreigners should be forced to wear large yellow stars so we can keep an eye on them! They should be kicked out of british homes,- which they no doubt live in with 23 of their dirty cousins – and made to live in specialy built compounds constructed in industrial estates on the outskirts, so not to polute us with their savage ways! There they should be made to work just for the right to stay in this wonderous nation and if they don’t like it they can bloody well lump it! Of course Brown and his leftist ilk are far too spineless and would no doubt start bleating about ‘human rights’ and other ridiculous marxist jargon! and dont even get me started on the EU!

The irony is, if I killed a coloured I would be the one who got in trouble?!?!?! ITS POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAD!!!

I’m off to download pictures of Ann Lesley!

  29. Chas

Bloody slave driver’s making everybody double.

I thought that only happened in the glass house.

  30. Minneythekid

oh dear daveyp – again you’ve made yourself look like a cock.

  31. aljardi

@ Field Marshall Super ted (retired) – Hilarious!

  32. George

The BNP advert on their website should take some explaining. But personally I’m all for them finally being open about it. These bastards should be honest about what they really stand for.

Didn’t know that about the PCC though. That’s absolutely disgraceful. Surely there should be a law against such a group obviously just pretending to be a regulatory body?

  33. George

“oh dear daveyp – again you’ve made yourself look like a cock.”

    -I’m fairly sure the bloke’s a parody.

  34. Sammy

I occasionally do work for Associated Newspapers, who produce the Mail.

On Wednesday I was at their office, waiting in the reception area. I spotted the headline on the front of the Mail (”FOREIGN WORKERS DOUBLE UNDER LABOUR”). As I was reading this headline I became aware of the two security guards having a conversation . . . the two FOREIGN security guards having a conversation in their native language.

Yes, that’s right. The Mail have foreigners working in their own building.

  35. daveyp.

Steven…YOU’RE the one who can’t read. I never said kick out the foreign workers, I said that most of the jobs they do could have and should have gone to British workers.

Dee…where did I get my info from? In 2007 I was sent on a course for people out of work. About a quarter of the people in the training centre had come to Britain since 1997, mainly Kurds and Congolese. What does Britain need them for?

Asylum Seeker…I suspect that your pseudonym should really be ‘economic migrant’. If you’re an Islamic migrant then can you please at least refrain from pushing your ghastly religion at those who don’t share it?

Minneythekid…you often mention cocks. Some Freudian significance there perhaps!

And finally, George…I’m no parody old bean. I’m for real! I like to think that there’s only one daveyp.

    And finally George

  36. Erebus

So DaveP thinks we should send all the foreigners back BUT all the ex-pats should be free to work abroad. No double standards there then.

  37. Jeff

So you don’t work either? May I ask, what exactly does Britain need you for?

  38. Scotchmist

    General Super Ted Sir,
Hold on there, If you have a pacemaker like I do,your heart may not stand up to pictures of Ann. I should know my first two packed in after receiving coloured and then black and white pics of her. Am I allowed to say ”coloured” in relation to people, even it that includes Ann who is actually divine and not human at all.
When I requested coloured pics the PC brigade went to Bangor but then realised they should have gone to bonkers but they still wasted my hard earned dole money. Thank gawd they don’t have to justify how they swindle the electorate. I won’t mention what happened when I asked for black and white pics as the police may call again. Don’t they know I pay their wages and pensions. The bastards, next they will be thinking they are here to protect the public and not their democratically elected masters.
Do you contribute to ”The Terry Wogan Morning Show?”

  39. YeGods

    er, daveyp

If you met Kurds and Congolese they were probably refugees, in this country under international law.

    So, what should be done?

Abrogate our international obligations and send them back to be tortured/ killed?

Let them stay here – but don’t let them work?

Or, perish the thought, let them stay and contribute to society by working?

  40. Minneythekid

Its because I love to suck em daveyp. Got a problem with that? Not that I’m gay tho, that’d be disgusting!

  41. Juno

Every time i come here I am not dissapointed, nice post
