I’m with the Mail on the Cabinet papers. Though, a Guardian Journalist made a good point that maybe we wouldn’t learn anything from them anyway.

If the Daily Mail had a voice it would be my mothers (in a heavy Belfast accent). “Did you see yer women in that Dress?!! I know its stupid to use her dress as some sort of symbol of tribute to the Queen Mum but……there’s a war going on and I’m focusing on the dress too much? whatever!!”

    Bitchy, Bitchy, Bitchy.

  2. Goat

I just spent a few seconds convinced that I could see a weird baby face on that woman’s knee. Creepy.

  3. Steve

Isee the baby face too!!! NEW EXPENSES FURY AS LABOUR MP’S PIECE HAS SMALL CHILD GRAFTED INTO LEG FOR HER OWN AMUSEMENT

Thing is what is the point, the decisions on Iraq were made and have been proven to have been wrong.

We can’t change the fact and we need instead of an enquiry a more diplomatic engaging structure in place so that Iraq can have a future of peace instead of the violence which has been steady since the conflict.

They fucked up, it would just be raking the ground, it would be an utterly pointless waste of time and money, we know the decisions were wrong and we know most of the Government and the opposition were in favour of this conflict even though I could see some of it was utter bullshite and other experts agree. Now if I saw it as bullshit then there was no real excuse otherwise.

The Mail now takes to criticizing what the relatives of Labour MP’s wear! How very mature of them!

It’s only the unveiling of a statue of the Queen mother for heavens sakes! Anyone would think she’d committed a dirty protest.

  7. Original Paul

Never mind the Cabinet minutes, Blair can only type with one finger.

  8. DBC

I was in a café today where three middle-class elderly ladies on the next were reading the Mail. I was very surprised to hear one of them say “how rude of them to criticise what somebody chooses to wear”. So there is hope for us yet, and not all of middle England goes along with this paper’s stupid opinions.

  9. Matthew

    Who’s the woman, sorry ‘lady’?

  10. Sarah

Tell you what’s really f**ked up, the people who are rating comments about on article about David Camersons son. All of the comment are lovely and heartfelt, and people are rating them. Weird

  11. janczyk

She’s Andy Burnham’s (Dutch) wife. If they think she isn’t showing the Queen Mother enough respec, I’d suggest their front page doesn’t show the QM very much more.

Incidentally, if you get the chance to read Liz Jones’s words in the paper, do. And then pop her name in a search engine and – well, enjoy the narrative.

  12. Sarah

Also, check out Mail readers fury at an All Black Eastenders show!!

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1153903/BBCs-black-episode-EastEnders-watched-8-4million-viewers.html

    How Hilarious

  13. NJH

Back then, I wasn’t paying that much attention to the right wing press, but is it fair to say that the DM backed the invasion?

  14. Russell

“Labour wife” got it *so* wrong. Pathetic way of putting it.

LOL on the ‘baby on knee’ comment; pretty freaky!

  15. JohnD

Goat is correct. Andy Burnham’s wife does have a baby’s face grafted onto her left knee. This bizarre fact is probably the most uplifting thing the The Mail can offer readers. As for the rest of today’s broadloid shitepaper, I simply don’t want to know.

  16. Captain Jesus

The comments section about the all-black Eastenders episode is indeed a hoot. Many of the contributors are questioning what would happen if the BBC showed a TV programme in which the entire cast were white.
My guess is that they’d call it (insert the name of almost any other BBC show).

  17. George

“Back then, I wasn’t paying that much attention to the right wing press, but is it fair to say that the DM backed the invasion?”

-Yes, they certainly did. But with all of the government duplicity involved several sensible people actually did too.

“Many of the contributors are questioning what would happen if the BBC showed a TV programme in which the entire cast were white.”

    -Nobody would notice.

  18. TonyB

‘We need to have the minutes published’ is naive. I worked for a [Conservative-controlled] council 20 years back. Before each planning committee the ruling group held a pre-meeting at which any disagreements between party members could be resolved rather than being exposed in public. So the public saw a nice unified public front. Likewise I’m sure that the Bank of England interest rate committee have off the record discussions before the meeting whose minutes are published. If the Mail wants minutes and papers to be published, then they’ll get a sanitised version. And whatever Paul Dacre’s ethics, I do not not consider it reasonable to tell people that they are having a confidential discussion then report it.

George: “Yes, they certainly did. But with all of the government duplicity involved several sensible people actually did too.”. Plus the entire Conservative Party (next to no dissent, unlike the Labour Party)

  19. Railroad Man

Of course, had the Tories been in power, we’d have gone to war as well. The only difference would have been 100% unquestioning support from the Mail, for all time, because as we all know, everything the Tories do is wonderful and good and moral and perfect, and everything ZaNuLiarBore do is corrupt, evil, harmful and wrong.

  20. Steven

Once commentator on the Mail website about the ‘black episode’ said maybe Channel 4 should be made public then ‘they’ can have a whole channel to themselves and leave ‘us’ alone…

  21. Doreen

And don’t forget that it was “ZaNuLiarbour” (oops, sorry — hope it’s not catching) who introduced the Freedom of Information Act in the first place — back in 2000.

So if it hadn’t been for that piece of legislation passed by “BLiar”’s government, no-one would have even had the right — yes, a *right* created by Labour! — to make such a request.

I suppose it’s expecting too much of Mail journos to visit this site:
    http://www.ico.gov.uk/what_we_cover/freedom_of_information.aspx
and find out a bit about what the FOIA actually entails.

Isn’t it interesting that the Home Office would refuse a democratically elected European Minister entry to this country to show a DVD to a few members of parliment about the Koran but will bend over backwards for a known preacher of hatre and terrorism and spen our money to suuport him. When will our Liberal Elite learn appeasment doen’t work ? Do they not remember Hitler?

  23. Jim

Does anyone know when banks will be ordered to repay all the unfair charges as described by the High Court last year. While the stay is in place we the claiments can not advance our claim but the banks are free to continue the unfair charges. Since it is our money bailing them out may we please get on with the case.

  24. Jakob

This is what happens when you let the riff-raff attend such occasions.

  25. office_tramp

It is a hideous outfit, but appropriate for the occasion. Her personal taste is none of our business. She wasn’t wearing a bikini FFS.

  26. Nick

“Isn’t it interesting that the Home Office would refuse a democratically elected European Minister entry to this country to show a DVD to a few members of parliment about the Koran”

Wilders is an MP, not a minister. I don’t think he’s even a Minsietr in a religious sense. Which isn’t to say the tosser should have been banned, but get your facts straight.

“but will bend over backwards for a known preacher of hatre and terrorism and spen our money to suuport him.”

I don’t know who you’re talking about here. Binyamin Mohammed? Hardly a preacher of hate. Perhaps an aid worker shopped for a rewards, perhaps, and this seems the worst alleged, an eejit who visited a place only an eejit would visit. I’ve seen no allegations of actual terrorism, or incitement to terrorism, just thoughtcrime.

  27. Matt Hurst

Wilders is also currently having charges brought against him in his own country.

Ironically one of them has a case against him and the other well were not sure what case they had against him, and I’ll give you a clue the former is a white bloke.

  28. Bubbles

The Queen Mum, now let me see, she was the one murdered by the Duke of Edinburgh wasn’t she?
Or am I getting confused again?

  29. Steven

I love how she apparently ‘got it so wrong’ even though she’s wearing something very 1950s, and probably something similar to what the Queen Mum would have worn at that age, while Sophie on the other rag is ’so elegant’ despite being dressed like a lapdancer out at Ascot for the day.

If they’d switched clothes exactly, they’d still be attacked/lauded as it’s the person in the clothes not the actual clothes they hate. Masters of doublethink.

  30. sue

a little INCONGRUOUS that the banner by Amanda Platel on front page27/2/9 is under the offer for a FREE box of chocolates for every reader!!!!!!!!!

  31. Jay

What a sad and depressing little website this is. Are you really having fun tearing apart what appears to be two papers
only. Is there nothing reprehensible (in your view, of course) in any of the other rags available. I should also like to point out that the word “bigot” means “obstinate and intolerant adherent of a creed or view” which seems to fit some of your
    correspondents very well.

  32. SuperTed

What a fucking whore! Has she no respect?! SLUT! The Nation’s Granny (Gawd bless ya mam) is dead and all this women can do is wear clothes and a hat, the outrage!!! Apprently she also took a shit on the cenataph!

  33. mochyn

I agree with Sarah. For once the DM is right on this one. We all know the rationale for the war against Iraq was flawed and the decision to go to war was illegal. Anything that can shed light on what on earth was going on in the Cabinet and Blair’s mind at the time can help understand how this disastrous situation evolved, and how such dangerous mistakes can be avoided in the future. The minutes must be published.
