I was surprised that they were considering killing This Morning, not least because its survived previous recessions and attempts to kill it off before, so I actually read the article. There is no reference at all to This Morning in it, other than an un-named ITV source saying “no programme is safe”… in which case they could have put any photo at all on the front page… which means they obviously chose Fern and Phil. Presumably this means their target reader must be a big This Morning fan. Which I guess is fair – the Express isn’t a newspaper, it’s a magazine format tv show but in print.
Frost was going to end this year anyhow, as David Jason suggested it was about time, and he was too old to be a dectective.
Seeing as they have probably already made the last Frost I doubt they are CULLING IT, more than it’s ending anyhow, get your facts right even Wikipedia is more factual than the Express.
Oh “and no programme is safe” bar Corrie and Emmerdale which pay there way.
Should revisit Alan Partridge’s list of programmes I’m sure there cheap to make and some ITV programmes were alot worse recently.
You can’t “drop” stars. ITV runs on independent programme makers. They hire/contract the stars for a period of time to complete the programme, series. Then the contract ends and the “star” looks around for more work, as do all the staff on the production company usually who are also contracted.
What ITV have more likely said is “we’re not paying for that long running series any more”.
So, only if no other channel choses to buy up the programme, the production companys says to it’s staff (and stars) “sorry, no-one will pay for us to make it, so we stop making it”.
“Heartbeat” could end up on Virgin 1 for all we know…
This Morning has been mentioned (in the Mail’s online article, and on the ITV1 news, for example) as a programme that will be cut back, i.e. there is talk that it will not be shown over the summer but it will be resumed after that.* Extremely misleading, then, to post that picture with that headline, thus giving the implication that it’s going to be axed.
*I’m a lazy student with not a lot to do over the summer, what the hell am I going to do for my lazy student viewing now?!
One downside to regaining your sight is being able to read ‘The Express’ and ‘Mail’, I hope people take the time to bear this in mind.
If ‘This Morning’ is dropped people will grumble but woe betide them if they end ‘The Jeremy Kyle show’,there’ll be civil disorder!
I watch the FA Cup and England matches they buy, always wishing the Beeb had got them instead, plus their Tour de France coverage every summer which they relegate to ITV4, but other than that I literally never watch ITV. It could come off air completely and I don’t think I’d notice.
Bionic eye story, cellulite cream and a front page story about ITV axing jobs? At least the Mail had a serious news story on the front page.
D’you think Desmond just hires copy and paste Journos and sacked all his investigative ones?
ITV? Top programmes? Haha, good one!!
I’m not sure that I’d class “Heartbeat” and “The Royal” as “top programmes” either Jamie, but there you go.

They must all be fat bastards at the express office then
Top Programmes?
Why a picture of Frost?

Anyone else fancy a go on Fern Britton or is it just me?
It looks a comfy ride…
