Horrible, horrible story. I look forward the to considered coverage in the Mail of the complex sociological background to this worrying but nevertheless highly unusual incident.
Or maybe they’ll just go with ‘The evil young feral monsters that roam YOUR streets’ as usual.
Expenses: Now “insert Labour minster” is in the frame ad nausea, the problem with these expenses it seems is their not doing anything illegal just a bit pathetic. Has Mr Cameron been asked why he claims Sky on his expenses?
As for these two lads I doubt they’ll be that good in a quiz, seeing as they’ve been educated under Nu-lab
Wouldn’t the three months salary that Ross had withheld by the BBC during his suspension more than cover the fine?
Ross and Brand are both equally dreadful IMO.
I hope to set an example that Paul Dacre will personally pay out of his own pockets all the libel judgements totalling hundreds of thousands of pounds that the Mail racks up annually by equally upsetting people in an unacceptable manner.
The Jamie Bulger case happened under Major’s watch, but it’s probably Mugabe Stalin McBroon’s fault anyway. The feral monsters who did it were released by Bliar’s government, weren’t they? The Tories would have locked them up and thrown away the key etc. etc…
Cue a press fuelled moral panic in spite of how unique such crimes are. Make no mistake the media LOVE crimes like this. They get to push all those ‘broken britain/where were the parents’ agendas that provide such a limited basis for explaining such a tragedy. There is endless mileage in exploiting this.
I won’t deny that it’s a horrible story and truly appalling for those involved, who by all accounts were minding their own business and have suffered terribly. But…these things are (a) extremely rare, (b) have happened countless times before and (c) have nothing to do with how soft or otherwise we are on crime.
Of course, things need to be done wherever possible to stop things like this happening, but you can guarantee that the Mail’s “string ‘em up” philosophy has nothing useful to contribute at all. The Mail seem to think that attempting to understand why crimes like this occur is the same as justifying them and letting the perpetrators off with a “slap on the wrist” – but only by understanding can you work out why things like this happen, and then try to stop it happening again.
George – I’d argue they don’t want to defeat it. They love it. It’s an endless goldmine of conflict, apoplexy and most importantly sales. They thrive off it.
I doubt even the BNP if they looked deep inside themselves would want genuinely minorities forced out, or the Real IRA have a united Ireland. It gives them something to do and makes them feel special. That’s why right-wingers shoot themselves in the foot so often, a prime example being Hamas breaking innumerable ceasefires just as progress is being made.
Right-wing psycho tosspots know exactly what they’re doing.
I’ve warmed to Brand since I saw his Nazi Boy documentary made early in his career, following a Leeds student who was a member of the BNP Youth (bring your own lederhosen). It’s on YouTube if anyone’s interested.

You can almost hear the calls of “Brown’s Britain” and “broken Britain” and “This sort of thing never happened before May 1997″ etc, ad nauseam.
Johnathan Ross should pay the fine for the BBC? I am bored with this right now. Ross shouldn’t pay a penny.
A prejudical headline if ever there was one.

Gaah. Words fail me.

Steve – agreed.

Agreed. There are two fundamental truths that just never seem to permeate any Daily Mail journalist’s skull:
There is a reason for everything, even the very worst things.
You do not have a hope of defeating anything until you understand it.
If I win the trip to Disneyland, can I nick someone else’s family in order to go? I hope that’s what the Mail are advocating.

I quite like Brand’s Ponderland actually, Ross is a bit boring though his radio show is quite entertaining.

@Railroad Man: “these things are (a) extremely rare, (b) have happened countless times before”
Does not compute.
Omw there STILL on about jonathon ross!
