Is it really responsible or appropriate to put a picture of a baby wearing a mask on the front page? It’s subtly insinuating that babies are all at risk and every parent must be frightened into strapping masks across the wee ones’ faces.
Where did they even get that photo? It’s a white, Western baby, presumably; who’s already wearing masks in this part of the world that isn’t a doctor treating one of the cases? Because I haven’t seen any (IRL or on the news).
I’m under the impression that these masks are mainly to reduce the chance of you infecting someone else, not getting infected yourself. Though what they mainly achieve is give the wearer a false sense of immunity. Plus help to spread panic, of course. Shun the infected mask wearers!

The government have said that the 32m masks are for health care professionals who could be in direct contact with people who are infectious, but of course mentioning that part wouldn’t be quite as attention grabbing now would it?

i remember watching a doc about the 1918 flu some time ago in which this issue came up, the medical expert they interviewed about it said that using a cloth mask to keep out the flu was like trying to keep dust of something by covering it in chicken wire.
