He wasn’t invited, the whole London Assembly was invited which unfortunately includes a BNP member. Guests are allowed to invite their own guests and he invited Nick Griffin.
Not very savoury, admittedly, but it’s a democracy and the BNP guy was elected, and as a constitutionally impartial head of state, the queen has to respect the wishes of the electorate. Likewise, Nick Griffin, while utterly odious, is a law abiding citizen and can’t be banned simply because the majority find his views repellent.
Technically they’re not even fascists either, they’re racist for sure, but they’re using the ballot box, and any criticism levelled at the BNP could just as easily be levelled at a majority of the Mail and its readers (if you read the frequently BNP sympathising comments section on the website), so what’s the point here?
Technically speaking, Griffin is not a “law abiding citizen” since in 1998, before becoming BNP chairman, he was convicted of violating section 19 of the Public Order Act 1986, relating to incitement to racial hatred.
Apart from that, you’re right. This is just the country who have fallen for the Mail’s lies and propaganda getting what it deserves.
Quite what the Mail is getting so outraged about, I don’t know. Has it really not thought about the consequences of its actions.
So the Daily Mail is feeding extremism is it? Why, by reporting the fact that immigration into this country is higher than it has ever been and that this is transforming the nature of urban Britain? That this unprecedented level of immigration is forcing up the demand for new housing, much of which will end up being built on greenbelt land? In my own borough alone there are going to be 15000 new houses built, most of them on presently green land. Or is the Mail feeding extremism by pointing out that the overwhelming majority of the population think that immigration is too high? A recent YouGov poll showed that 79% of the population want the immigration rate cut back sharply. Imagine if a party got 79% of the vote at a general election! And the poll also showed that it’s YOUNGER PEOPLE (16-24) most in favour of tighter controls. Is is feeding extremism for the Mail to point out that mass immigration takes place despite most of the population being opposed to it? I am well aware of the dark side to the BNP, which is why I don’t vote for them despite being mightily tempted to. But don’t all you liberal/leftie types denounce them for being enemies of democracy. As your stance on immigration shows YOU despise democracy as well.
Good for the Mail (I hate typing that), to think the BNP could get their grubby hands on the Queen and claim it as a triumph makes me sick. Sadly however, banning them from going will only give Griffin publicity and the chance to cry ‘victim’. I say, let him go to the party. He’ll have a rotten time because the Queen will most likely invite plenty of Jews, Muslims, Blacks and Indians. He and BarnBrock will spend the entire party being being ignored and standing by the punch bowl looking a bunch of twats. And I think the BNP are national socialist if you ask me, not facist.
Also, if you’ve got time today. You should all go to this website http://www.nothingbritish.com and sign the anti BNP petition. The website is pretty cool.
Not a word about how this Gov are the ones ‘who’ve done it for the Ghurkas’
(both post 1997 & pre 1997, unlike their tory heros who did f*ck all squared for them – no signs of a ‘treachery!’ headline there, ever – during their 20yrs)
I have to say that main headline looks very ambiguous.
S’funny how, for once, they don’t include their own condemnatory slant on this ‘news’ (claiming there’s a ’storm’ over this is hardly coming out strongly for or against), presumably they chickened out cos then they’d have to front-page something that might turn off a good 30% of their readership?
KW – I realise he’s broken the law in the past, I just meant currently law abiding as opposed to some violent criminal who should be kept away on security grounds.
Personally I hate him and his organisation, but democracy goes both ways. If you exclude them from the process, you play to their goals and by their rules.
It’s our old friend daveyp:
“recent YouGov poll showed that 79% of the population want the immigration rate cut back sharply”
All that confirms is:
1. Most people are idiots
2. That most people swallow the crap fed to them by the tabloids about immigration
3. Just because the majority support something, it doesn’t mean they’re right – popularity does not equal ‘right’.
Wonderful free press for the BNP which we all know most of there views corrospond with the Mail so has this all been a normal Mail spoke screen to take our thoughts of the Tories now coming into view regarding expences, just a thought !!!
To be fair to Daveyp, at least he backs up his beliefs with figures, which the majority of serious right-wingers who come here don’t bother to do, so I think he deserves a bit more respect.
As for our attitudes to immigration, I’d argue that supporting it wasn’t in any way an attack on democracy as you say just because the majority seemingly oppose it. Democracy isn’t the X Factor, where issues are decided on an emotive popularity contest, we elect a government every 4-5 years and they decide policy. That’s democracy.
The government’s current policy (who were voted in by a majority) is to allow immigration, so to support that is hardly anti-democratic. I think you’re getting Democracy confused with Anarchy, Dave.
The fact is for all their condemnation, nothing would change at all in immigration policy under a Tory government as outside their platitudes to the peanut gallery in order to get elected, they recognise just as much as Labour does that we need immigration as it is vital to keep our economy functioning.
The only parties who would close the borders are the BNP and the like, and only then because people like Nick Griffin are simply uneducated racist thugs and know absolutely nothing about the ins and outs of running a country or an economy. I wouldn’t trust him to manage the day shift at McDonalds to be honest.
“A recent YouGov poll showed that 79% of the population want the immigration rate cut back sharply.”
Let’s assume that poll is actually representative of the whole country… you have to remember how these opinions are formed.
The Mail, the second biggest selling paper, hates immigrants and isn’t afraid to say so. The chief immigrant reporters, James Slack and Steve Doughty, are well documented to twist figures to make things seem much worse than they really are.
Headlines are designed to make you angry before you read anything and sometimes they’re even outright lies as proven within the article (e.g. headline: we have the highest immigration rate in europe. Story: actually we’re the 11th highest).
And it’s not just the Mail. The Sun – the bestselling paper – is also anti immigrant.
They don’t provide fair and balanced coverage. They don’t provide the facts and let you decide yourself. They provide a anti-immigrant headline and then carefully pick out facts that back it up, whilst leaving anything out that contradicts it.
So no, I’m not surprised 79% of people want immigration controlled. But I believe that a lot of those will be voting based on misinformation fed to them by the Mail and Sun (who are read by perhaps 25% of adults), and not by actual reality.
Some just want to pretend that the more recent ‘other’ immigrants are getting something ‘we’re’ not getting
(insert some made up cr@p about free-loaders and their free luxury housing, cars, diamonds etc etc).
Hateful sh*te abusing & exploiting some badly informed people’s ignorance, as per.
Textbook Mail hypocrisy here. It bangs on about ad nauseam about the BBC’s lack of journalistic integrity, e.g. the documentary about the Queen where she is storming out of the photo session with Annie Leibovitz, but here’s the Mail doing the very same thing it accuses the BBC of doing.
To be honest, I do think immigration should be controlled but I think that the problem’s far less serious than the gutter press make it out to be. If you read the Mail you’d think that every immigrant in the world has selected the UK as their destination when in reality other European nations take in just as many as we do.
look at the Daily Mail acting all outraged that the BNP leader is invited onto the Palace lawn. At least he is open about his views. He’s a racist and he is clear about it. The mail on the other hand are obviously racists but they act like they are not. The BNP would just say “nonwhites having more babies is bad”. A racist opinion but at least they get to the point. The mail would say “immigrants having more babies” when in fact we know they really mean nonwhite immigrants. That’s actually far more annoying because they try and use non-racial language when they are clearly being racist.
Do the Mail not realise that its exactly their sort of despicable scapegoating , racist, misogynistic drivel that makes people vote for the BNP in the firstplace? Nick Griffin himself has said Littlejohn is one of his favourite writers in the papers.
He wasn’t invited, the whole London Assembly was invited which unfortunately includes a BNP member. Guests are allowed to invite their own guests and he invited Nick Griffin.

Hilariously, I was right! Check this to see that the majority of green arrows are BNP supporting! – http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1185030/Fascist-Palace-lawn-Storm-BNP-leader-invited-Queens-summer-garden-party.html
Maybe the Mail are forgetting their readerships equally repellent views in their quest for generating outrage?
For a moment, I thought they meant someone from the Daily Mail had been invited.
I thought they were referring to Jolie then
Technically speaking, Griffin is not a “law abiding citizen” since in 1998, before becoming BNP chairman, he was convicted of violating section 19 of the Public Order Act 1986, relating to incitement to racial hatred.

Hurrah? When was the last time the Heil used Hurrah in a headline?
Odd to see it wheeled out again in this setting. It’s almost like they have something to feel ashamed about. Wonder what?
Sounds rather congratulatory if you ask me!
I thought the ‘Hurrah’ was for the ‘fascist on the palace lawn’.
The above commenter is right, the Daily Mail is feeding extremism, so why are they acting shocked at the consequences of their reporting?

Oh dear. Open mouth, insert foot, forget brain.
Somewhat off topic, but I was hugely amused to get a fascist leaflet through the door the other day with a picture of a Polish Spitfire on it.
Bloody Eastern Europeans, coming over here, saving the world from tyranny…

You reap what you sew Daily Mail!
He’ll probably get on famously with Prince Philip.
Seeing as a member of the London assembly invited him I hope Prince Phillip says to him “And you must be his gay partner”
Moggie: LMAO! And Prince Harry! Will be just like Peep Show
“Are you sure he wasn’t just messing about, being all Ali G you know?”
“No he wasn’t. Because we spent 4 hours discussing the skull shapes of different races”
Typical.

I also present this: http://tabloid-watch.blogspot.com/2009/05/deeply-flawed-poll-from-migrationwatch.html
When I read the headline I thought “oh, Harry’s back in town”…
I wonder if he should don his party outfit to make Herr Griffin feel at home…
Wonderful free press for the BNP which we all know most of there views corrospond with the Mail so has this all been a normal Mail spoke screen to take our thoughts of the Tories now coming into view regarding expences, just a thought !!!
Hurrah More Asylum Seekers…. Link that in with the frontpage you have a amusing Juxtapose, it’s almost Liberal.
The BNP should not be banned, but they should be exposed for what they really are… A bunch of law-breaking, hate-spreading, moronic hypocrites.
Would Griffin, if in power, not want to send Brenda and Phil back to Germany and Greece respectively?
To be fair to Daveyp, at least he backs up his beliefs with figures, which the majority of serious right-wingers who come here don’t bother to do, so I think he deserves a bit more respect.
