Well at least their main headline is some actual news. This barely got a fleeting mention on ITV1’s 6.30 news (it barely got coverage from most news sources, I think). It was lumped in with a montage of other snippets.

Ohh, Michael Jackson has been relegated to the banner on the front page. I guess I will have to wait until tomorrow for my daily Express Jackson Headline fix.

I love those brackets. Its as if to say, “yes gordon brown might have done something we wanted, but dont worry readers, hes still an evil stalinist mcbroon”

So, one person survives a plane crash and 152 others die. Some miracle.

    Conspiracy! Where was Prince Phillip?

Glad that Alan Johnson’s first move as Home Sec is to reduce the idea of ID Cards, that’s good stuff.

As for Jacko it’s Lady Di all over again.

They really ought to get the Photoshop out and change his hair colour, so as to befit Dead Blonde Corner.

“This barely got a fleeting mention on ITV1’s 6.30 news ”

probably true though it was getting a lot of coverage later in the day. That’s the problem with TV news: Until they get a camera crew on site a story’s not worth covering. That’s why Radio 4 generally does a better job.

I fear I might get murdered as well. I wouldn’t like that at all. If I was really famous, I would probably fear it even more. So, thats the end of that pointless anecdote, so whats the point of the one on that page?

Unfortunately ID cards haven’t been scrapped. The National Identity Register database remains (which is what the objections are about), and it will still be compulsory for anyone wanting a passport, at least, to be entered onto the database, have their fingerprints taken etc, be subject to fines for not notifying the Government of change in address, as well as the excessive costs (estimated £93 for the combined ID card and passport, and an extra £30 to a private company for the privilege of having your fingerprints taken). The only change is that you don’t have to have the physical piece of “card” itself – but you still have to pay for the bleeding thing.

I agree that if Brown really did scrap ID cards, I’d be glad, and not belittling him for it in brackets.
