S’funny that the less party-political news is full of quotes from serving personnel who are saying that their kit is the best it has ever been and they want for nothing.

The rather childish notion that a few more armoured landrovers and helicopters solves everything and makes war (for our side) death and injury free is typical of the political opportunism and infantile points-scoring nonsense the likes of the DM indulge in.

Naturally they have no committment from their tory heros who are not in fact claiming they would boost the overall defence budget (just making their usual specifics-free vague noises about ‘efficiencies’).

Joseph Goebbels would recognise that front page.

  3. James M

Obviously the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince game is on the Mail’s very short approved list of games.

  4. Stevie H

Surely “Half Blood Prince” suggests inter-racial breeding?

Can’t imagine the DM being in favour of that (unlike my sister, but that’s another story…)

  5. NJH

Wasn’t the original betrayal the legally-questionable invasion of two neighbouring countries based on spurious/false evidence?

  6. Matt Hurst

Its tragic and sad, but it certaintly shouldn’t be used as a political point scoring exercise, the telegraph frontpage today was basically the Tory press release.

  7. Mr Mordon

I’ve pretty much gone into this in some detail on the forum so can’t be arsed on here.

I must be blind though since i can’t see the ‘tory spin’ that Matt & Mailman seem to decipher from that front page

i wonder if one day the mail will give away a game called “harry windsor the half-blood prince.”

In my opinion Afghanistan is not worth a single British life. Like Pakistan (nukes apart) it is a primitive country inhabited by backward people and we are best off out of it. The reason that we have a terrorist threat in this country is because the grim warnings of Enoch Powell were ignored and large-scale immigration was allowed to continue. 7/7 was powerful testimony to what Powell warned us would happen. The way to defend ourselves against terrorism is to prevent any further immigration by Muslims, servants of a violent and imperialistic creed, one that has been so since its very beginning. The prophet of Islam used the lance and the scimitar to advance his cause, his followers today use bombs and AK47’s. The weapons are different but the menace is the same.

  10. Jswindle

Oh FFS. 9/11 was nothing to do with British Muslims it was plotted in Afghanistan hence our involvment – British people died too, and Muslims and 7/7 was a result of that. No war on terror, no 7/7. Most terrorst deaths in the UK have been due to involvent in Ireland or, thanks to the Brick Lane bomber, a white racist. That bastard blew a mate of mine across the street and he was white and ‘British’ and straight and on his way home and had a stay in hospital. Pope Urban II, look him up. We’ve been dicking about in Muslim countries for near a thousand years and here you are bitching about Muslims in the UK as if Christianity has a clean history, and as if Mulsims are orks. If it wasn’t for islam the renaissance wouldn’t have happened yet you treat all of Islam as some evil, primative, force. Now, if the 7/7 bombers had actually been made to feel ‘British’ (and not been dicks whith a stupid sense of their own importance, maybe) they’d have joined the vast majority of peacful Muslims who would never imagine building a bomb. Again, well done in bringing everything back to immigration. Quite why you insist on trolling these pages with your hatful rants when there are plenty of sites out there for you to meet people who will agree with you is a mystery. You may even meet another would-be Brick Lane bomber. I’d suggest not going on and on about immigration and ‘menace’ with him because you are going to get people killed.

  11. Mr Mordon

Thanks Js, was going to post something similar but sometimes its easier just to bash your head against a nearby table

  12. DrDude12472

surely the UN could have removed the taliban, then the US and UK could have used the wasted money from the war to build afghanistan into a successful nation.

  13. Sarah

I actually agree with the Mail on this one. A very good friend of mine is the army and he’s not treated well.

As for Harry Potter, the Mail are sooo like the Daily Prophet.

  14. Jswindle

I guess the place is no easier to fight in than when the might of the USSR broke against its mountains and backward people made such great use of stinger missiles. The recent deaths are not good news, but then ‘we’ are on an offensive in a historically terrible place to fight, and you can’t win hearts and minds with predator drones and B52s. I’m sure it’s hell for the British Army, but I can’t think of a war that Britain has gone into when it has been totally prepared and as the old adage goes – no battleplan survives the first engagement, or something. Still, at least Harry is safe – thanks tabloids. I’d have to add I wouldn’t join the army if I wanted to be treated well, I’d work at John Lewis. Not a fan of being shouted at, let alone shot at. Never imagined it was in any way a pleasant job, but always thought certain people enjoy such things and I respect them for it. I like pillows far too much.

I think most of us would prefer to be vaccinated against the EUSSR and Zanu Labour!

    Daveyp:

“The way to defend ourselves against terrorism is to prevent any further immigration by Muslims”

And just how would you intend to implement this? Ask people at customs? Or just not let anyone in who “looks a bit muzzie”?

  17. daveyp.

@Jswindle…I reject your charge that I am a hatemonger. If you study my posts in a calm and objective manner you will see that I am a believer in human freedom, which I believe to be under mortal threat from Islamic imperialism, an ancient and enduring threat.

Communism was only a threat in the short-term; being a ‘made-up’ ideology it was doomed to have a short shelf-life. And Nazism was only a threat for as long as it took God to empty out the vial of His wrath upon European Jewry for their failure to support the Zionist cause. When that vial was empty the swastika banner was thrown to the ground and upon the ruins of the Third Reich, speaking metaphorically rather than geographically, there arose in triumph the modern state of Israel, the Third Hebrew Commonwealth. Militant Islam seeks the destruction both of Israel and of Western civilisation.

In short, Islam is a menace and our troops should be defending the frontiers of Europe, not the badlands of Afghanistan.

  18. Uponnothing

daveyp, if I were you I would seek professional help. This isn’t being facetious, I seriously think that if you genuinely beleive what you have just written then your grip on reality in tenuous at best and you need to seek help.

  19. Jswindle

DaveyP ” I reject your charge that I am a hatemonger”, As is your nutty right, but sorry – when someone calls an entire people backwards (you may as well say ‘retarded’) and blankets a faith held by millions of peacfull followers as being a menace because of the actions of a few, fails to accept we’ve been at greater threat from white terrorists than brown ones and takes pretty much any news headline and drags it back to the immigration issue then that is hatemongering. Communism short-term? North Korea, China anyone? Thing is, everyone thinks what they think is reality and you are lost in an inward spiral of xenobhobia which, again, makes me wonder why you haven’t found a happier home on sites that aren’t meant to ridicule such things. You will never convince anyone of your cause here and you obviously just want to stir a pot and call people ‘lefites’ whenever they disagree with you. I read your posts quite calmly, but you know better – right? I’m obviously in a rage. Human freedom? Not for the Afghans to be free of the Taliban et al eh? Sod it, lets pull out and let the crazies eventually take power in backwards yet nuclear enabled Pakistan. Your reasoned comments come across like the rantings of Jack T Ripper from Dr Strangelove. Enjoy the resulting glow.

    daveyp

    There it is.
Once again you couldn’t hide it for long.

Note the switch from “militant Islam” to the blanket and sweeping cr@p about “Islam is a menace”.

Uponnothing is right, you need help with those nasty obsessions.
However you keep trying to dress it up and hide it you continue to fail miserably.
Your inclinations are plain as day.
You’re quite obviously a sad prejudiced bigot.

  21. daveyp.

@Uponnothing…I suggest you read Deuteronomy, chapter 28. Go on, I dare you! That will show you where I’m coming from in theological terms. Not madness, but enduring and awesome truth.

@Mail Man…all you do is repeat your abuse. I won’t waste my time responding to you.

@JSwindle…is China communist any more in the true sense? And North Korea? Cuba is I suppose, but for how much longer? But anyway, calm down! Can’t you see? I’ve put on my broad-brimmed hat and my cloak, slung my bag across my shoulder and picked up my staff. The time has come for me to move on, an intense and solitary figure wandering the highways and byways of cyberspace. Maybe one dark and stormy night I’ll crash back through the doors of ‘The DailyMailWatch Arms’. Maybe not. Will the site be a happier place for my absence? Quite possibly. But then again, maybe it will slowly wither in an atmosphere of dissent-free complacency. Only time will answer these questions. I must be on my way.

  22. Mail Man

    LMAO

    Abuse?
    You wish.
You get no abuse, merely the derisive laughter you deserve.

Yeah, true to type, run away when called and shown up for your bigotry and ludicrous prejudice.

    “Enduring and awesome truth”!?

Sorry to pi$$ on your parade but holding up the Old Testament as justificatrion for your attitudes just illustrates your laughable cherry-picking even further.

Here’s some “enduring and awesome truth” you’re probably not going to be making much of these days –

But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel: Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die…
    - Deuteronomy 22:20-21

The Fourth Commandment itself acknowledges that people may own “manservants” and “maidservants.” (Exodus 20:10.)
Other laws state: “The slave is [the master's] property.” (Exodus 21:20,21.)

I bet you’re really careful about all those ‘abominations’ too, huh?
    Careful with the shell-fish.
    Yeah right.

  23. Jswindle

Is China Communist in the true sense of your non-argument? Well, Uncle Joe is dead I guess, but then arguably Russia was never communist in the true sense either since there were rich and poor, powerful and desititute. Cuba is you suppose? Well that’s political scientists the world over schooled. Nazism fell because the Jews took their punsihment? Tell that to the millions and millions of dead proper communists. The USA has nationalised banks? It’s all falling appart! You are not intense, I’ve read better thought out bile. I just hope you’ve been playing Devils Advocate and aren’t the Terry Pratchett of self-congratulating dellusion that your recent posts have underlined. Perversely, I enjoy your posts when they don’t become the Jack Chick of politics. And no, you can’t have your fucking football back.

  24. Mail Man

    Bye daveyp.

I wonder what the new outrageously right-wing sock-puppet will be called?
