Exactly. The Express’s insinuation is that those millions are all idle layabouts who choose benefits as an alternative to work. The reality is quite different.
I’m a bit confused by the figures, btw; I was under the impression that unemployment was over 2 million and that this was some kind of product of the recession but the Express is claiming that at least 5 million people haven’t worked since 1997. That would suggest that a hefty amount of those aren’t considered “unemployed” or the Express’s figures are wrong.
As an employee of a certain business connected to this the only way these figures can be correct is if they include kids coming out of school and college and even then your streching it.
Otherwise they can’t be, not even the 2 million figure.

There are also 500,000 people with autism alone who could doubtless be useful but find it hard to ‘pass’ interviews as employers are effectively testing social skills.
These shocking figures, with all the misery they entail, show that the democratic system has failed. It is time for a provisional dictatorship, resolute but ethical. To deal with mass unemployment three measures should be initiated: 1. The troops should be withdrawn from Afghanistan and all foreign aid ended; the money thus saved would be put into job creation programmes here at home 2. All illegitimate, i.e. non-white, immigration into Britain should be stopped immediately 3. Women with young children should be encouraged to stay at home with them; if a couple of million could be thus persuaded to leave the workplace then this would make a huge difference to the unemployment figures.

Because we don’t believe that it is race and skin colour, rather than culture or society, that makes a difference in such a situation. No, you do not have the right to waltz over to India and dictate what they should do in their own country, as they have no right to do in ours (they have the right to an opinion, as do we, but actual intervention? No). But to equate race with culture as an intrinsic link is a long way off the mark. Culture permeates from a very local level to much wider, trans-national norms, hence we have many differences from one nation to the next, but a certain similarity in different respects over a very broad region (Europe, America, the Middle East, the Far East, etc). The breaking down of race barriers is a relatively recent development, so the dominant race in a given geographical region is still very much persistent, as is the prevaling culture. It’s easy to draw a link between the two, but incredibly silly to do so, as cultural clashes occur between people of the same skin colour, while I have personally known Indian and Pakistani people with English accents so thick you could float a Yorkshire pudding on them. There are problems with race divides and stereotypes even in first world countries, but consider how far things have changed; the Black and White Minstrals used to be fine family entertainment but the idea of it being a viable source of entertainment nowadays is considered horrifying. This is despite some people continuing to do their best to divide the world based on skin pigment, and while parallels can be drawn, those parallels owe more to basic human tribal behaviour keeping different peoples, both physically different and culturally different, separated over the course of history, and the fact that the ability to cross cultures at the click of a mouse or a quick hop on a plane is barely a full stop at the end of the current sentence of the Book of Mankind. The separation of race and culture isn’t complete by any means, but be wary of drawing parallels that in modern society are proving to not be quite so intrinsically linked as they might appear.
