Migrant? I read on the Beeb she had a UK husband and been in the UK for a few years, so not exactly migrant is she. Bloody mail ed needs a dictionary. I blame the education.
Leaving aside the fact that she is here illegally, she has a full-time job, doesn’t scrounge off benefits, pays her taxes and has presumably kept her nose clean, as the police would have picked up on her a lot sooner otherwise. There are more than a few “indigenous” people who are plenty worse than that.
It was stupid and/or arrogant of her to stay on past her visa’s expiry in the hopes of winging it, but since she doesn’t appear to have done anything to warrant expulsion in the years that followed she should at least be given the chance to apply for a new visa or citizenship. Or maybe she should be thrown out for daring to pay taxes and hold down a job.
There are issues with the appropriate checks not being carried out before and during her employment, but it seems fairly pointless to make her out to be the villain of the piece.
Nice to see the DM resorting to the kind of language used by the bloke in the union flag t-shirt in the pub with his rottweiler:
“Even unknowingly employing an illegal is still an offence, ”
Not only is it rather offensive to describe someone as “an illegal”, but it’s also grammatically incorrect to simply use an adjective, it’s a bit like described someone as “a tall”.
But then again we all know the DM like to play fast and loose when describing people.
