Mel is on form today. You can tell from the outset that the ‘long march through the institutions’ is about to rear its ugly head. There’s a lot of it about at the moment. The same rhetoric is on display – but without mentioning the long march explicitly – in a syndicated piece from last week by Mel’s co-thinker on matters Eurabian, the even more barking Daniel Pipes: http://wl.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,26311172-17062,00.html
What’s different about Pipes’s piece is that the enemy within are not the ‘far-left’ but Islamism 2.0, which is much more insidious than good old fashioned flying-into-buildings Islamism 1.0 because it infiltrates the very fabric of our liberal democratic institutions. I’m sure Mel would agree. Give ‘em an inch…
@ Luton Diesel. The communists tried “communism 2.0″ as well in that communist party members were encouraged to go into politics & the civil service to try and turn Britain communist from within.
Today’s headline is really a non-story though. The government’s proposals to force ISPs, local authorities and the like to keep records of every phone call, website you visit and email with minimum safeguards is a far more important issue, and one that everyone should be concerned about. After all, it might be you who is arrested on suspicion of “inciting racial hatred” because a jobsworth from the Commission of Racial Equality discovers you’ve made a phone call to a friend in which you criticise multiculturalism.
All of these “anti-terrorism” measures are supposed to protect us, but instead they will be used against us.
Who are the people who actually rang ofcom about X Factor and why do they exist? Its mind boggling.
I’m in two minds about Philips, sometimes I think she makes good points but most of the time I think she’s just hysterical. The article about the far left is utterly bonkers. She basically lumps any person who is any way liberal into the same basket as the USSR! Anyone seen her article on her blog entitled ‘multiculturism kills?’
“Feminism, anti-racism and gay rights thus turned men, white people and Christians into the enemies of decency who were forced to jump through hoops to prove their virtue!”
“For the republic of Euroland puts loyalty to itself higher than that to individual nations and their values. It refused to commit itself in its constitution to uphold Christianity, the foundation of western morality.”
I’ve met plenty of Christians who are for Gay Rights, feminism and who fight against racism. In fact, a lot of them consider these policies to be an expression of Christianity and its core belief’s. Phillips seems to think she is representing Christians everywhere when I highly doubt that is the case. She lumps every Christian into one group and expects that each and every one believes the same thing. They clearly don’t.
You yourself show the contradiction and misunderstanding so prevalent in the DM (and DE). The proposals are to record the details of telephone calls, e.g.
Number 0113 2224444 called 0777 8886654 at 12:56pm for 1m56s.
NOT to “listen in” or “tap” the calls, so there’s no way a “jobsworth from the Commission of Racial Equality” could discover “you’ve made a phone call to a friend in which you criticise multiculturalism.”
Whilst phone tapping is carried out, it is outside the scope of the proposals you refer to.
Sarah: Your right that tabloid papers always claim to speak for “Christian values” despite having virtually no knowledge of what the bible says or Christians believe. It is, in a sense, a euphamism for traditional family values or more accurately “Daily Mail values”. However I think the reason they get away with it so much is that many Christians are scared away from papers like the Guardian and Independant by the sheer number of hidious, spiteful columns angrily attacking Christians, such as Polly Toynbee and Johann Hari etc. I enjoy reading the Guardian, but I get the impression it often hates me .
On the religion issue maybe it is, but I dont believe its liberal bias is as great as many suppose. The news stories are always very balanced and impartial, and it is only when you get to the comment aspects that the left-wing ness comes out, and even then it is generally well researched and articulate, unlike the mail which is just knee jerk steriotypes and no actual facts at all. In short you can disagree with the conclusion in the Guardian but not the news and research. They have also broken some brilliant stories, such as the guy killed by police during the G20 protests.

Gosh, it is indeed one of the most insane rants from Mad Mel in recent memory.

Stalingrad?

Isn’t the Guardian just the liberal version of the Daily Mail?

No, that’s the Independent.
