Mail readers are all bleating away about how the government should intervene on this one, when it’s simply the logical conclusion of free-market economics.

Idiotic hypocrites, the lot o’ them. This is just classic Mail button-pushing, designed to infuriate the Middle Englanders.

i agree this will confuse a lot of mail readers, as holding contradictory beliefs seem to – maybe thats why they never propose any solutions and just moan and complain

not related to the story but the master scientist and hater of halloween, A.N. WILSON, has now revealed he is partial to a racist joke or two – http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-1229083/A-N-WILSON-Cant-joke-anymore.html

  5. Original Paul

I don’t think you “park” ships.

  6. Mr Mordon

Well i didn’t see that coming!

I believe this is what Melanie Philips refers to as “market forces carrying the torch of liberty”.

Up and down the country, houses and flats are sitting empty becuause their speculator owners refuse to sell because they are holding out for future price rises. In Daily Mail land, the only price rises which are “good” are housing related.

Are the owners of these oil tankers any different to someone with a half-dozen new-build flats?

I think they call it enlightened self interest

    I didn’t buy today’s mail for a lecture about communism…

  11. Dave!

Bless… just wait ’til they find out about OPEC.

The first rule of the right of centre mindset: Capitalism is good, except when it’s not good for you.

I don’t like, nay absolutely hate, the scaremongering tone of this front page. Firstly, it’s cheaper for oil tankers and other large vessels to drop anchor out at sea when there’s no demand for their use rather than incur port charges. Secondly, there’s no evidence that these tankers are carrying oil – they could be empty tankers waiting for demand for oil to increase. And, this phenomenon is nothing new. I went on the ferry from Pompey to St Malo & back in June and I saw lots of vessels of all types moored near the Isle of Wight. Finally, there are other, more important stories like the pig’s ear of a queen’s speech yesterday, or even Hamid Karzai’s promise to kick all coalition troops out of Afghanistan in five years (yeah, pigs might fly)

  14. Mail Man

    Why is this now news?

This has gone on during every so-called oil-shortage, there has never actually been any such thing, just the greed that’s keeping full tankers awaiting the ever higher prices they themselves are helping to engineer.

Maybe the DM might like to reconsider their unquestioning devotion to market mechanisms – as the financial world has just demonstrated all too clearly ‘the market’ often acts extremely irrationally and sometimes to the great harm of its wider societal setting.

Nasty, evil subhuman, Non-Aryan, foreign tankers lurking off our white hardworking Aryan master race shores, waiting to terrorise our Home Counties Aryans! Call Richard Littlejohn! Oh… wait… he doesn’t live in Britain…

  16. Marcs

    Breaking news!

Taliban on ships disguised as oil tankers plotting mass invasion of England!

All white people of a right wing persuasion are strongly advised to commit mass suicide to avoid brutality, burkhas and ravishment.

This panicky message was brought to you by the Daily Mail…

    Will they buy that?

    It was worth a try!

  17. Tony

Capitalism at its finest :p Control the flow and the price goes up.

Anyone who didn’t realize this went on in the oil industry must have been dropped on their head as a baby or something. Or a daily mail reader.. same difference.
