Why we yearn for 1950s Britain?

Who does? Not pornographers like Desmond, I’m sure.

  2. TruthSeeker

The average Express reader may yearn for 1950s Britain, but I don’t!

  3. Matthew

The glorious days of Empire, women ‘knowing their place’, slum housing, deadly smogs and incurable diseases………..you can see their point can’t you?
Even ‘Private Eye’ would struggle to parody a headline like that.

  4. Marcs

In the 50s, due east, on the other side of the anti Fascist wall, there was a credible alternative to elitist, class ridden Britain. Maybe the Socialist alternative wasn’t pushed hard enough.

Wasn’t Britain still being “swamped” by mass post war immigration during the 50s? perhaps that’s what Express readers yearn for.

is that a barbie doll in dead blonde corner?

william and kate’s romance isnt private now the express has put it on the front page… royalty-stalking cretins.

Why they REALLY yearn for 1950s Britain: They can’t cope with modern life.

  9. Mikey

Who yearns for 50s Britain exactly?

Other than old people. And Daily Express readers.

    1950s

The Korean war was in full swing.

The Cold War had just started.

Communist Russia was scaring the heck out of every western country.

The Suez crisis. Yet another wa

Cuba turned communist with the Cuban revolution

Widespread facism and racism still about in the UK.

But……………..you could leave your door open and nobody would rob you

Genius by the Express by the way.

The Queen writes to (primarily the Express) newspapers to ask them to stop using paparazzi to create gossip articles on the Royals.

The Express reply, by stating that the reason is because Prince William is about to propose…………..gossip article

Queen’s privacy blitz is to actually stop royal obsessed right wing rags, to leave her alone.

One of the ironic things in life. The Queen is actually very liberal in political nature. And in general hates intolerance and right wing politics.

She fell out GREATLY with Thatcher in the 1980s, over apartheid and Mandela. She couldn’t stand the fact that Thatcher was calling the man a terrorist, and backing racism in the country. As she felt it made the entire country (including herself, the head of state of several majority black countries at the time) look backwards, and cruel. To the point that she pretty much despised the women.

So the Queen hates racism, intolerance, and general right wing politics. Tony Blair was one of her favourite PMs in his time in office.

And yet, all the liberals want rid of her, and all of the loony racist right, love the women, even though she despises their views.

The Express and Mail generally go against everything she believes in, politically. And yet seem to think they are the papers of the royalty.

I’m not a loony queen fan myself by the way. I’m just writing a thesis on royalty

Femme Fatale?? It was a real-life horrifically brutal murder not a fucking episode of Poirot!

  14. Matt Hurst

I think the Court in Italy decided she was a cold blooded murderer, Is it that hard to accept?

  15. Steve

Hi Mikey, are you sure that _all_ the liberals want rid of the queen? Perhaps you exaggerate for effect.

Anyway count me in as a loony queen fan.
I can always secure a double seat on the bus muttering
“Scaramouce! Scaramouche! will you do the fandango?” under my breath.

The ‘dead’ blonde is going to be waiting a while – Tiger plays Nike kit, so he won’t be along to pick up that bag anytime in the near future.

It’s a well known fact that you could ‘leave your door unlocked’ in the fifties cos no one had anything to steal
