Wow, they’ve splashed out on the petrol pump graphic today. No red ink or underlining though.
Petrol is due to go up anyway, after over thirty years of falling prices in real terms and post-war public transport policy being firmly centred on individual car ownership.
Or it could just be a socialist conspiracy, to end the British Way of life.
Those heedy days of the early 1990s, when we all used to drive about in Morris Minors, and spend our weekends making jam, and playing parlour games, before these heinous liberals ruined the moral fibre of this country.
Seriously. Am I the only person who remembers Race Riots, Poll Tax Riots, Strikes, 15% inflation, 26% income tax, 3 million+ unemployment, Punk, Yardies, Gang warfare, Yuppies, 18 month waiting lists to see a hospital doctor, class sizes of 50+
I swear, 99% of politics is just the fact that people only have, on average, 10 year long term memories.
I for one don’t think 5% inflation, 20% income tax, a less voltalite socierty, and my kids doing really well at school is actually that bad!
You know. Try paying 26% income tax, have TWO recessions within 9 years, and a decade of IRA attacks, if you want to feel depressed about a government!
As I said. People’s long term memories last about 10 years. That’s basically politics!
They run this petrol story on the Mail website. Difficult to maintain concentration, but it seems to suggest that petrol *may* be 125p by the end of 2010 as against 119.7p in July 2008. Scarcely the end of civilisation as we know it.
The price of newspapers was about 10-15 pence per copy not that long ago, perhaps is people bought less newspapers they might be able to drive a bit further, and be a bit happier.

would that be aviation fuel then?
The express not cottoning on the fact that Petrol prices will go up every year.
Errrr:
1: The price of oil goes up the more you use. As it’s harder to mine
2: Petrol is subject to VAT like any widely used commodity
I’d suggest that’s basically it.

Wow
The Express seem to have uncovered some previously unkown phenomenon whereby the price of goods increases over time
It’s still 105.9p a litre at my local Asda.
