Wait, now the Express are jumping on the Mail’s bandwagon with the Asda offer? Or..something. I thought Mail and Express readers wouldn’t be seen dead anywhere other than Waitrose anyway.
Their basic pay is £83k. The rest of that is a possible amount obtainable through expenses – though after last summer’s events, MEPs would be using that very carefully, I’d imagine.
MPs have to do a lot of travelling because of their job and ministerial duties, their basic wage seems like a lot of money but living in a constituency, attending Parliament, travelling all over the country and abroad does eat into the wage pretty quickly. Pretty soon the only people who will be able to afford to be MPs will be millionaire Tories. The right wing press is driving out those who live in the real world and who want to represent real people without being forcibly impoverished.
I wonder how long the editor struggled to fit the “E” in MEPs in to that headline before giving up and saying “I do hope that doesn’t acidentally mislead anyone”.
This expenses “scandal” has been cooked up by the extreme right in order to create a situation where the face of British politics lurches to the right and leaves the left out of power. Unfortunately the British public sometimes does not act in it’s own best interest.
Marcs. Yup.
It has caused/encouraged a disinterest and cynicism about politicians, and politics in general. The smaller the number of voters, the greater the chance of a dictatorship. All part of the plan.

Ms Moss looks as ‘classy’ as ever……..
Doctor F
Mail/Express readers – think Alf Garnett. Conservatives with nothing to conserves.
Lower middle class morons, who think some people are born to rule over themselves
The story is basically that MEPs have to fly around a lot. And stay in a lot of hotels.
As EU is not in England……….
Their actual salary is about 80k
Yeah, let’s do away with MPs altogether and have a right-wing ochlocracy. What’s that? They’re already working on it? Thought so.

Also, there was that big expose in the Guardian just before the expenses ’scandal’, on tax evasion/avoidance/dodging. Got totally buried.
