Tomorrow’s Express headline: ‘EARTH IS ACTUALLY FLAT – despite the claims of nearly all scientific experts in the field that the world is round, we at the Express can expose the truth behind this hoax as we clearly know more than the experts…’
Yes, a few conflicts on that front page.
How to stay healthy and avoid cancer conflicting with a free portion of chips and and celebrity smoking a fag. And (barring a sudden change of direction) I guess the climate change headline as usual conflicts with the scientific consensus.
Earlier today, the 3rd most popular story on the Guardian website was how climate change scientists had lied about the geography of the Netherlands, claiming more of it was below sea level than was true. Is this the same ridiculous non-story or some other ridiculous non-story?
pstu, as with any science, climatology is based on weighing up evidence. In the climatologist vs the tabloids, this is akin to Yokazuna vs Victoria Beckham.
Get your free portion of fish and chips and you can wrap it up in the Daily Express.
Alternatively forget the fish and chips and use the paper to wipe your arse.
Can’t think of any other uses for this appalling rag.
This isn’t even looking at any perceived “flaw” in the science; the Express, Mail and Telegraph have all taken the same interview Dr Phil Jones did with the BBC and misquoted the hell out of it. Basically, Dr Jones admits that it’s ONLY >90% certain that our current climate change is caused by humans, rather than the >95% certainty that’s expected from completely robust theories.
He even goes as far as saying that the reasons for this uncertainty are well known and mostly accounted for, which is still leaps and bounds beyond what rags like the Express are claiming, and certainly far beyond the “science” they support (remember how certain they were that Wakefield was right about MMR?).

jesus wept that is a brilliant juxtaposition in the blue banner below the headline
