Clearly women are so selfish having babies and expecting their employers to not fire them etc. And the EU sides with them! Thanks to the Mail for once again opening my eyes.

What I always love about headlines like this is they try to spin it as a ‘we’re genuinely concerned at the repurcussions’ angle when the stench of misogyny is so bloody obvious.

How did they make it £2 Billion I wonder.

  3. JSwindle

Career-minded women encouraged to breed – pension shortfall saved!

  4. TedB

They made it £2 billion by assuming that everyone earns as much as their editor… obviously.

  5. Steve

2 billion probably came from the CBI’s “Bingo machine of totally huge numbers”.

It’s just left of the “Rewards for failure” executive salary and bonus fruit machine.

A thought: if the Express was run by women, would the costs of maternity leave be so much of an issue?

  7. JSwindle

Probably, they’d still be women who hate women.

  8. JohnD

Firms facing a GBP2 billion maternity bill? Oh, fecking boo hoo.

  9. NJH

Surely we need more than two pages of self-obsessed popstar divorces even-more-self-obsessed, fuck-easy, greedy footballer, especially given how it gets very little coverage elsewhere.

Not that any employer would allow themselves to think this, but it makes over-45 women look a better bet as compared to those of childbearing age. Wasn’t it last week that the BBC was being slagged off for discriminating against older women?

    Cheryl dumps Ashley…

    Cheryl who?

    Ashley Who?

    Who cares?

It won’t affect the employent opportunities of women because men can get paternity leave too. Equal opportunities and all that.

Most decent employers already pay full pay during this time.. so there’s no real change, except for the tightfisted ones.
