Surely all mums get benefits in the Child Tax credit at least until the sprogs are 16, so doesn’t that make them all “scroungers” even the [gulp] Excess readers….
Given that the Express et al are always screaming about us being a nation of benefits scroungers (including various foreign nationals), even if it is a largely fictitious view is it any surprise that everyone wants their cut?
I love the ‘mendacious’ quotes which give ‘effect’ whilst suggesting the ‘words’ have actually been ’said’ by someone other than an ‘Express’ journalist.
My sister is a single Mum. She works full-time. She also gets various child benefits. Is she good or bad?
3 stories on the front page, all seemingly out to bash women. Nice.

What a horribly confused page. “One in 4″? Eurgh

It’s a NOW story so parts of it are bound to be made up.
“NOW one in four mums is a scrounger and has a 50 inch plasma TV and an 8 bedroom mansion paid for by YOU!”
That is what the headline amounts to.
That headline and subheader just scream DIANA at me.

I question the 1 in 4 figure.
Are they counting all unmarried mothers as ’single parents’ whether they’re living as a family or not?
Chris – don’t you mean an Express ‘journalist’?
Or my widowed granny.
Sill a mother, and regrettably single.
