Surely correct usage is to only use the pound sign in front of a number or as a column heading? Otherwise the heading is true though the piece probably doesn’t tell you that the pound is 10% higher against the US$ than a year ago, or that the rate fell to around 1.03 during Mrs T’s reign.
In the Mail it’s “Yorkshire Ripper’s £200,000 bid for freedom on legal aid: I am on the way to being cured, says the murderer of 13 women” Are the Express giving a discount?
I had odds on that the Ripper story would be front page along the lines of “NOW.. Gordan Brown/EU/Human Rights Act release ripper to rig election (by killing the middle English).”

The guy stood next to Tess Daly is clearly Niall Quinn, ex Ireland and Sunderland striker, now Sunderland chairman.
Let’s drop this useless pound thing and join the Euro, which I’m sure is the subtext to this headline.
The latest tory campaigning tactic is actually:
“Back us, or a hung parliament will destroy the economy even more”
Quite literally. It really is. Real desperation stuff.
