Just 10.15am, and already the Comments are flooding in. Predictably, practically all are of the “I told you so!” flavour, with the majority adding “Throw away the key!” stuff as well.
A few are even saying we should have hanged them when we had the chance.
The strangest thing (to me) is, however, the general outrage at their continuing anonymity. Why is it, I wonder, that people are so desperate to know what they look like, when they’re obviously (even more obvious, now) being kept under very close scrutiny by the Authorities?
Since they’re not saying why exactly he’s back in jail this story is a bit pointless for now. I imagine the papers have their fingers crossed for a brutal murder or something though.
How long before one of the tabs breaches the embargo around the new identities and publishes a recent photo? I give it a week, at most. They’re straining at the leash with this development.
I read about this story in a 2nd hand copy of today’s Sun. The story was talking about “jungle drums” in prison whereby the other inmates would figure out his identity with the implication that he would be brutally murdered sooner or later.
As long as they’ve not been given the same name as me I’ll be happy. If they have then no doubt I’ll get a braying lynch mob of Lincolnshire’s finest weirdoes after me
Am I the most liberal person on the planet, or am I just sensible?
Personally, I think that there is only so many ways you can punish children. You just have to accept that 10 year olds really don’t understand the concequences of what they do.
Children of that age don’t know the difference between right and wrong. They don’t understand the concequences of actions.
Of course, what they did was terrible. And should never be forgiven. And they should always be closesly watched, and be on “license”.
But I think it’s personally acceptable for them to be given new identities, as adults, and given a chance to try and live normal lives.
If they’d willfully committed this crime as adults, they’d be free people anyway by now, no doubts. 17 years ago.
Annonymity protects everyone. As let’s be honest, there are a lot of stupid people in this country, who are prepared to take a life for “revenge”.
Why should these people be baited into doing something by the press? As in, they may be the ones serving a life sentence for murder.
See Lee Harvey Oswald. The press baited a perfectly honest man into murder. And he was in prison for a long time, no matter how “valiant” he thought his actions were
Even a dog knows when it has done something wrong. Mine used to hide after it stole the Sunday roast*. I think it’s fair to say that you don’t have to be very old nor smart to know that killing is pretty damned naughty, nor do you have to be very old to be a psychopath. It’s one thing to be a kid and twonk another with a bat in play, it’s something else when you hunt for one, torture them, then let a train carve their dead body in two to disguise your actions. Hardly fun that got out of hand.

And remind me who was in government at the time?

Sutcliffe yesterday, Bulger Killers today.
Anybody would think there’s a “NuLiebor soft on crime” story being warmed up for “Broken Britain Thursday”.
I’m persoinally amazed, that bots these criminals were doing crime in the Pre-Blair golden age of all that was right and good.

1993, that was Majors broken Britian wasn’t it?
