So rather than lead on an actual news story – although at list the gunman got on the front page – like say how there’s no money to repair the existing schools but apparently there is to help set up the ironically called “Free” schools – instead the express re-hashes a story from last week’s “Express and Star” local paper (any relation I wonder!), and, of course, doesn’t mention that non-muslims complained as well.
    Why am I not surprised.

On second thoughts having read the comments on the original story, clearly the “Express and Star” just HAS to be connected to the Daily E…

The Express and Star isn’t related to the Express but would appear to have to same bigoted readership.

    Are ‘we’ paying for this??

    > Are ‘we’ paying for this??

No I read this shit online.
The Metro’s free if something absorbent is really necessary.

Surprise, surprise, The “have your say” option has now been stopped for this story. I suppose that’s because they don’t want the truth to be published. about this non-story.

So, according to the update this is another load of cow droppings from the Express. No surprise there then. Perhaps someone could devise a game whereby you have to guess which bit of an Express story is factual. Many days of course there would have to be a rollover when none of it is actually true.

The ‘refutation’ is not a refuation.

And the council statement does not answer the central claim: That muslims campaigned or requested this.

Did the council survey all users and ask opinions based on informed consent (ie what the impact would be) explaining that requests had been made? What about partially sighted users?

That well known bastion of right-wing racist lunacy The Mirror has failed to fall in line: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2010/07/06/council-chiefs-in-swimming-privacy-row-115875-22385294/

Why not address the facts instead of just ranting abuse about the sort of people you think you hate.

Knee jerk response is what you accuse the Express and Mail, but you have to examine all the evidence and try and differentiate yourself from that approach.

So what if some Muslims did campaign for this? I fail to see the outrage. If the headline was FAT PEOPLE FORCE POOL COVER UP, would there still be a problem? Would it even be a headline?

As the statement from the council points out, the covered windows do not block natural light at all and they insist that the swimming area is well lit. We should have no reason to doubt them either of course, because the Mail & Express ‘elf and safety’ Nazi’s would come down on them like a ton of bricks otherwise.

Again, as a local councillor points out (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/black_country/10517404.stm) – something like this was done years ago at another local baths and no one batted an eyelid. My local pool has always had frosted glass so people can’t see in, yet it is still flooded with light from outside.

How many more facts do you want us to address? Darlaston is 20 miles away from me, should I don my Speedo’s and go check it out? Maybe I should take a partially sighted friend along…

I agree with both of the points that “jonny d” and “Merk” have made.

The odd thing is that this wasn’t done as part of the installation. The swimming pool at the leisure centre I used as a kid was built in the last seventies and had tinted glass windows, and there were no muslims in the country then. What kind of plonk builds a swimming pool in this day and age with optically clear glass?

  12. Steve

What about Poodos – won’t somebody think of the …

    Peedos even (perhaps wearing speedos)

In 1981 no one died. In 1982 there was the incident with the pigeon. In 2010 some local news story was picked up by the majors because it could be given a racial slant…
