Since when has the Express regarded the French as a good example? The French also have the metric system and the euro. Should we follow suit on those as well?
Phil, isn’t that true for nearly every Excess story that it was in something else (usually the Mail) before.
And wasn’t that ‘teacher’ a HEAD teacher, and most of his pay, made up from back pay and ’special’ duties.
Not to mention that he also turned around a failing school but let’s not the facts get in the way, eh!
Hurrah! European civilisation is fighting back! I bet this has got all you Islam-loving lefties choking on your organic muesli. Well tough tittie my ‘dear’ lefties. And yes, I am Islamophobic…in other words I believe in human progress and freedom. Islam has ruined the Middle East. Just look at the glorious civilisations that once held sway there: Sumeria, Egypt, the Hittites, Babylonia… Far superior to anything going on further north. And now see what they’ve sunk to. PS and no guff from anybody please about how the Muslims ‘invented’ maths and astronomy, they didn’t.
Not strictly true! The French lower house has voted for it, but the Senate and Constitutional Council still have to consider it. Then there’s the European Court of Human Rights of course…
But the main thing is the Express have given their readers the impression that France has banned it so why shouldn’t we do the same.
Yep, as soon as those ancient civilisation’s caught Islam they all went backward, which is why Christopher Wren’s most famous cathedral looks totally unislamic. What a silly.
Neander: Islam was the great civilisation that emerged from the ruins of the southern Roman Empire and held sway while Europe was in the dark ages. It declined of course as Europe rose, but don’t forget a lot of the ruin of the Arab lands was due to European (including, sadly, British) imperial policy.
Naturally the fact that the US was only to happy to foster, fund and massively expand the most extreme Wahabbi version of Islam (in the madrassas of Pakistan and Saudi) so as to get lots of young Muslim men to go and attack the Russians with suicidal zeal in the 1980s passes you completely by Neander?
Himmler thought it was an excellent soldiers religion, so too did the USA…..until that particular tiger they were hanging on to by the tail and deluding themselves it would always remain under their control & influence turned round and bit them so badly.
Yes he “earns” too much, but Dacre, Mad Mel, Littlecock, etc will receive more, and that’s paid indirectly by the tax-payer from Rothermere’s tax haven.
Oops, sorry, that comment was written with the DM in mind. Still, Peter “Mentally” Hill is paid too much and Dirty Des is a cunt, plus the above three cunts are still cunts. It’s not a bad thing to keep reminding ourselves of facts.
I wonder how the tabloids would react if the EU as a whole imposed similar burkha legislation on Britain: “EU threat to Halloween! Face masks banned!”
It’s also odd that nobody mentions that the French law has extensive provisions to punish men who force women to wear the burkha, but I guess the tabloid hatred of women is partly behind this – it’s better to fantasise about ripping off burkhas than to consider whether the state should be interfering in people’s home lives.
“And it is He who ordained the stars for you that you may be guided thereby in the darkness of the land and the sea.” – The Qua’ran, leftie edition – presumably.
@Phil… the decline of the Isalmic world was well advanced by the seventeenth century, when Western imperialism was only just getting underway (the Americas apart). And look at the Yemen, which had virtually no contact with the West until the Victorian era. An advanced society in ancient times it had long since sunk into utter poverty and wretchedness, the Islamic virus being allowed to work unimpeded.
@JSwindle…Ever heard of Ptolemy? And quoting from the Koran to prove that Islam is science-friendly smacks of desperation on your part.
@Mail Man…I am grudgingly forced to concede that your post was totally correct. For the record I think that back in the 1980’s the Russians should have been left to get on with the task of dragging Afghanistan into the modern age. By supporting the mujahideen as it did the US prepared a bloody rod for its own back (and ours as well).
“And quoting from the Koran to prove that Islam is science-friendly smacks of desperation on your part. ”
The intention was to show that Islam has a long history with astronomy, not science in general, thus backing up a post that suggested you wonder why some stars and constellations are called what they are. If you’re looking for the religion that has had a problem with science then you should look at the one that showed Galileo an array of torture impliments.
You’ve admitted that you have an irrational fear of Islam so if anyone’s points smack of desperation they are yours. Keep getting your information from Chick comics and carry on.
JSwindle…My opposition to Islam is based on entirely rational premises. My points make this clear. I’d like to know which of them you think comes from a Chick comic. And if Islam is as science-friendly as you suggest then could you please list all the Muslim Nobel Prize winners in the sciences? I don’t know of any…whereas my understanding is that about 25% of Nobel Prize winners in the sciences have been Jewish.
‘They would make themselves your masters, even in your own house’. Thus spoke a wise old Arab chieftain in Medina concerning Mohammed and his companions. Had most of the contributors to this site been residents of Medina you would have accused the Arab chieftain in question of scaremongering. Yet he was totally vindicated by what happened in Arabia. It may yet happen in Britain.
Ever heard of Mohammad Abdus Salamwas? His Nobel acceptance speech was a corker.
I’m sure there are a lot of sillies in many religions who don’t like science at all which is why highlighting Islam as being against science is clearly stupid. Religion and science should be, in my mind at least, opposed. You say that Islam is a menace. The only answer you ever really get is that you’re being simplistic, very black and white and quite zoroastrian in your outlook. What a wise old Arab you are.
“Telling people what they can and can’t wear, if they’re just walking down the street, is a rather un-British thing to do,” he told the Sunday Telegraph.
Catherine Heseltine from the Muslim Public Affairs Committee said MPs should not waste their time discussing it.
She said: “Britain is a free country. We value our freedoms and we don’t want MPs or the government telling British citizens what they can or can’t wear.
“How does it hurt anybody else if a woman chooses to wear a small piece of cloth across her face?
“Quite frankly, MPs, there’s a £160bn debt; shouldn’t they be busier worrying about what they’re going to do about that, than a small piece of cloth that a few women choose to wear?”
Well, you wait 13 years for a Tory prime minister, then when you get one he won’t ban the burkha! Don’t you just hate it when that happens. It’s enough to make any self-respecting Express reader vote BNP.
So it’s OK to hide your identity! I take it men can also wear a burka if they chose.
Muggers and hoodies take note – don’t get caught on CCTV wear a burka.
Simples!
Pressure from the racist tabloids
Indeed!
Since when has the Express regarded the French as a good example? The French also have the metric system and the euro. Should we follow suit on those as well?
Bit of churnalism there. The story about the head teacher was in the Mail yesterday.
Phil, isn’t that true for nearly every Excess story that it was in something else (usually the Mail) before.

Pressure from who?!
I honestly thought France were smarter than that, fucking terrible.
“Pressure” from the BNP, UKIP and the Express. That’s all.

Neander, you do realise that phobias are by their very definition irrational?

Glad to see the Express is widening its horizons and reporting international news on its front page. Not sure why the sudden interest.
Neander wrote
‘PS and no guff from anybody please about how the Muslims ‘invented’ maths and astronomy, they didn’t.’
Strange how all the major stars have Arabic names then isn’t it?
Do some research before writing shit mate
I bet the proposed ban gets knocked back at either Senate, Constitutional Council or European Court of Human rights level.
If it does, I wonder if the DE will afford it as many column inches as they have done today?
Better written here than shoved through a letterbox – knowworrimean!!

Another Neander post – zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Will the French be targetting ninjas next?

Fairish call though. Astronomy obviously predates Islam. Same bit of the world though – the key foundations are Babylonian.

No it won’t
…confirms Damian Green, Immigration Minister:
“Telling people what they can and can’t wear, if they’re just walking down the street, is a rather un-British thing to do,” he told the Sunday Telegraph.
