Of course, we all know what Express readers think of the au pair: “bloody foreigner”.

  2. Ceiliog

The average Express reader thinks that an au-pair is a bra size.

  3. George

The au-pair! I’ll ask my butler.

  4. Lazarus

    I didn’t know racist pensioners hired au-pairs?

  5. Ceiliog

Quick! Divert resources from Pakistan’s flood victims. Peterborough is besieged by 23 homeless people and they’re forrin!

War crime case has turned into the trial of Naomi Campbell because, despite it having been taking place for a number of months, our gutter press only took an interest when it could be approached from the fwoar-celebrity angle.

Yes, disregard all those amputees and rape vivtims who have been giving evidence over the last few months.

This is the thing- I would be incredibly surprised if many express readers had an au pair. But I’m sure almost all *wish* they did.

Even moreso, Im sure that express readers enjoy the ego massage that is provided by the insinuation that they are part of a readership the majority of which can afford an au pair.

    Aspiration sells.

    Joe — I agree absolutely.

See also the Mail’s constant bleating about ‘middle-class’ families, which gets lapped up by their target market segment of Hyacinth Buckets.

I would say there is a slight difference- most Express readers I’d call upper working class whilst most Mail readers seem lower middle class.

And have there been ANY DM or DE front pages (or coverage of any kind) regarding Pakistan? I know they probably consider it a nation of would- be terrorists and benefit scrounging immigrants who all deserve to drown but the reality is somewhat different.

Pakistan is an important ally, particularly now and our response to this crisis will have a massive impact upon hearts and minds for generations to come.

But then I suppose natural disasters don’t half take the fun out of the tabloid blame game.

I’ve lived in central Bristol now for 15 years. Bristol has very high levels of immigration.

I have to be honest, I live very close to these areas of very high immigration, and I’ve never once been a witness of any crime.

In fact, I walk to and from work every day through the cities Somalian neighbourhoods, and have found them very polite, kind, friendly people. Even the teenagers. Much more respectful than our own youths.

Much of the problem with migrants is basic ignorance. Fuelled by newspapers like this, who just fundamentally don’t like foreigners, and try to incite their readership to share their view.

If you treat these people with curtosy, and respect, you get it back

Same deal as when I lived in a supposedly scary ‘black area’ of London.
I was there for years and never had anything but the most obvious jokey banter from some of my black neighbours.
    Made some good friends there.
    The domino nights!
