The “real story” is that both press and player are fretting over the fact his primary career, i.e. football, is coming to a well overdue end and they’ll lose an easy if shite cover story source. The rest of us don’t give a shit.
NJH: I agree with you, I couldn’t give a flying one about Beckham. I despise football, as does my poor old dad, who complains bitterly nearly every day that the sports section of the paper contains acres and acres of coverage of ‘the beautiful game’.
There are other sports, y’know. And most of those are about chasing bl**dy balls too.
The beautiful game? Never can understand which bit is supposed to be beautiful. Is it the ball kicking, the spitting, the aeroplane impressions (after scoring a goal), the arguing, the gross overpayment of celebrity players, or Ingerland going out after yet another rubbish performance?
I love football, but Beckham has been hideously overrated throughout his career, he was never captain material and was obscenely indulged by Eriksson, with part of that continuing under Capello. Ferguson had the right idea, getting shot of him when he became a professional celebrity, part-time footballer.
Let me guess HMRC not chasing unpaid tax is a good thing, unlike while (paying) benifits is bad.
Since when did the Express tell us “the real story behind” anything?
Furthermore, I don’t believe the Carol Vorderman story. I’ll watch the programme and make my own judgement!

Sex smears? Is that what happens when you wipe it on the bedroom curtain afterwards, or what?

Nicely put, Phil.
Sorry to disagree with you, NJH, but I think football is a bit meh. Not as bad as middle-market newspapers, though.
i’m sure the express’s sister publication “OK” will have bought the rights to all the details of the beckham story.
