It’s not good for the poor who can’t afford to buy, and who need Housing Benefit because the rent is too high.

    Hooray for inflation!

    House prices?

Wasn’t it speculation about such things that caused the economy to get too inflated in the first place, hence the recession?

    Wankers

Why is the express paying a bank chief to do nothing?

So if true (and that’s a pretty big ‘if’ of course) the BBC wanted their presenter to look younger which is admittedly terrible. Good job the Express never does double page spreads on how celebrities look older now then they did when they were young then as then I’d get to call them hypocrites.

While growth and tax revenues along with consumer spending is down.

    house prices rising!!!
    Is that good or bad?

Whatever temporary house-price ‘improvements’ there might be in the next couple of months I’d bet my house that we will soon be seeing the return of falling prices as the dole queues start to lengthen very soon.

I can see nothing in the year ahead (or the next few ones, sadly) which suggests anything but a major recession in the UK with all that entails in relation to people being unable to buy houses.
The fact that the banks are still not lending (save for the very low level currently done) just means few will be able to sell anyway whatever price they try to get.

Grim times ahead, i think, I’m sorry to say.

…..and the ’super jet’ headline is interesting.
It was a Rolls Royce jet engine that went bang, not the Airbus A380.
But I imagine that doesn’t make for a good sneer at ‘Europe’.

Read ‘House Price Fun with the Daily Express’ in Private Eye. Its what came to my mind. It won’t be long before we get a headline suggesting something stupid will impact house prices.
It used to be the Daily Mail that ran the ‘Ban on foxhunting may cause house prices to fall’ headlines.
The way to avoid worring about house prices is to err… live in your house.

The Express is owned by Richard Desmond. Richard Desmond “allegedly” has a very large property portfolio. The Daily Express repeatedly publish “HOUSE PRICES ARE UP” articles …. coincidence? ;-)

With ref to student tuition fees; I learnt today that someone earning £30,000 would ‘only’ have to pay back £68 a month. So, being a bit obsessed like, I worked out how easy that would be to afford. After all, £30,000 sounds a reasonable salary for a recent graduate and £68 not much to pay back. I went to some bank’s website and asked how much of a mortgage I could get on that salary and was offered £9,000.
    Which was nice.
