So, instead of letting the judge decide whether a prisoner should be allowed to vote, based on the circumstances of the case, as part of the sentence, we are going to have to pay out vast sums of money to any convict who decides to take us to the ECHR. That’s shown them, eh?

BTW does anyone know what the objection to giving a few short term prisoners the vote actually is? Apart from the fact they “broke their contract with society” which could be used as justification for inflicting any horror upon them.
I’m not sure who Koo Stark is. Wasn’t she a pop star in the ’80s? I suppose I’ll have to look on Wikipedia and that her opinion on the welfare state is worth contemplating, as she is famous.
So is voting a right or a privilege. The DM and some politicians seem to be treating it a privilege granted to the great unwashed that can be removed at the first transgression.
I’ve always been taught it was a right (and one that people have died to give us).. Clearly for nothing, as MPs could decide to revoke my ‘privilege’ of voting for being left handed, or not liking the daily mail.
