“Many employers wrongly believed that having an NI number meant foreign staff were allowed to work in the UK.”
However Section 8 of the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 imposes a duty on employers to ensure that all employees are not in breach of the Immigration Rules. Anyone who works here legally, say on a temporary work permit, is issued with an NI number. Any resonable employer would know that this does not imply a permanent right to work here.

    No they don’t.

Is it as big as, or cost as much as the tax dodging/money laundering loophole that Gideon Osborne, Phil Green and their City/Bullingdon buddies take advantage of?

  5. NJH

CTHBP, and indeed Jonathan Harmsworth, majority owner of the Mail, who whilst sitting unelected in the House of Lords lives in France as a tax-dodging non-dom and full-time cunt.

Still, that Emma Watson’s looks nice doesn’t she?

Benefits; immigrants; random unconnected photo of front-page totty – players of “Daily Mail Headline Bingo” should almost be on for a full house. Only the rampant homophobia, inevitable health scares and obligatory sneering remarks about the HSE/”bin police”/speed cameras/climate change are missing.

    Dear Daily Mail
    I dont like paying tax.
Can you send me a list of your loopholes?.As you and your evil twin(the DE) seem to be experts on this subject.

  8. Francis McGonigal

The suggested losses in the benefits which are contribution-based (”£ tens of millions”) should be set against the tax and NI which these workers paid.

  9. NJH

I think, and I could be wrong, that the Express and Dirty Des are largely innocent of tax-dodging. It is rife in media proprietors though, with Harmsworth (Mail), the Barclay brothers (Torygraph), the Grauniad and Murdoch all partaking.

  10. Mr Mordon

Well at least they managed to say ‘illegal workers’ and not ‘illegals’

  11. Stevie H

Of course we all know that none of the decent, white, Christian, British, decent, law-abiding (except speeding), white, decent, Christian, white, white, white population work while signing on.

On another point, good to see from the online version of Femail, the Mail recognises that today’s modern woman has been freed from the kitchen sink so she can give her attention to the really important issues in life, like celebrity gossip.

  13. Mad Jack

NJH.. say’s old Johanthan Harmsworth lives in France, no he lives in London and at his pile at the village of Ferne, Wiltshire
Follow this link to see his country seat:

Are we talking Daily Mail journalist’s here?

  15. Mark

Wow, it’s like the perfect stereotypical Daily Mail headline.

David B: Don’t forget the obligatory mention of the taxpayer :)

  16. Liam

Oh lordy-lou! If only Diana was here, she’d stop the dirty immigrants doing everything that’s ever happened in the country in its whole lifetime after periods of complete peace until immigration laws were passed wrong!

    *cries in corner*

Reading between the lines: the middle classes have worked out that post-Thatcher/New Labour social immobility means they now have little chance of joining the super rich so they’ve given up defending them and need re-assuring that it’s not all it’s cracked up to be anyway.

Or am I just being cynical about DM readers?
