Every time a person is put under a big risk is been taken, it might have been better for him to be anesthetised once than for him to be put under and woken up four times, with each attachment probably taking several hours at a time.

If a complex operation like a limb attachment takes say, four hours at least, better he be worked on all in one go by several doctors at once. If each was attached seperately, that would be at least sixteen hours he would be under for, not to mention the difficult business of keeping him under but alive and waking him up each time. Four times over.

However, I'm not a doctor so I'm in no way claiming this must be the case. Unlike Me, Here.

Delve a little deeper (and you don't even need to go that deep) and you can clearly see there is far more to this than the headline would have you believe.

It creates an image of a calculating Hannibal like monster been put to death for killing his mother (after his last meal, something most mail readers won't be happy about so much is made of it in the article).

When in fact it appears we are dealing with a man with severe learning difficulties with the mind if a toddler (confirned by prison staff who dealt with him on a daily basis) who was forced by his mother to perform sexual acts on him.

Will anyone reading that stop to consider the moral implications of putting a man like that on death row and wether or not better care and support earlier in life could have prevented such tragedy? Or the barbarity of a society that allows a man to take ten minuites to die?

Not likely.

It's a tragic story on many, many levels. My head melted a bit at how complex it was and how back-and-forth the Mail's reporting was.

He was abused, he returned said abuse, he committed other crimes, he had difficulties and so forth. I don't think he should have been put to death, and it's shocking that they brought it forward due to the drugs "expiring".

It's an argument against the death penalty, in my mind.

The putting it forward part was particularly worrying.

It's almost as if they suspected his mental condition might work in his favor at his next appeal and so decided to get it done quickly before his sentence could be changed, or that they perhaps did believe that he had some mental issues and would be too immature to process the change in his situation - he's "retarded", he'll be too stupid to co-ordinate an appeal in so short a time.

Very worrying.
