There was a Wally Toynbee comment on there earlier (now removed) citing this story as proof positive that cannabis is a dangerous drug as it can cloud your judgement.

And Dennis just hasn't bothered to read the article

On the plus side at least they have attracted plenty of red arrows.

Female racing driver fighting for her life after 'inexplicably accelerating' Formula One car she was testing into support truck

Quote:
Sounds like the typical "I accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake" excuse that women drivers give for this type of accident, albeit not in F1 cars where the consequences of the error are multiplied many times. I will get red arrowed, I know, but the telemetry will show exactly what happened. You accelerate in a car - you've probably hit the accelerator.

Well, they padded that article out somewhat.

I didn't know ol' Dante kept tabs on motor racing from his non-existent circle of hell, nice to see he's been keeping up with the times. Mind you, I'd like to see him drive to the standard required of F1 test drivers.

As some of the sensible commenters have said, a stuck throttle can happen to anybody, and that car would have been accelerating significantly faster than anything she's driven before. I'd be looking very hard at Marussia and their car - remember this will be a test car (I think it's last year's car being used as a test mule and driver training car) and not one that has been raced since a rebuild.

Sensible report at http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/100890 and http://www.patronisef1.com/index.php/f1 ... -conscious

Anything she's handled before? Judging by the Mail's article, she had a 10 year career in racing before she became an F1 test driver a year or two ago, so I fail to see how this car can be anything of the sort.

Bit of advice Dante, just because you have picked up a new long word from somewhere doesn't mean people reading your post will assume you are intelligent and therefor right.

Oh, and you are also a cunt, good day.

From the Mailsport article which Malcolm provided with his post.
Quote:
The F1 community has sent its best wishes to de Villota, whose only previous experience of grand prix machinery was when she tested a 2009 Renault last year.

So very likely it "would have been accelerating significantly faster than anything she's driven before".
If you don't read information when it's plonked in front of you it's hardly surprising that you "fail to see" things.

And from the Daily Mail article wot I read:

And from Malc's other link:
Quote:
This morning's run was the first time that de Villota had driven the MR01 car, having joined the team as a reserve driver at the start of 2012.

So, really, that's two sources against one that suggest she is in fact experienced with F1 machinery as well as competent with other higher-speed, specialist racing vehicles.

Also - look up what a test driver actually does. This was a straight-line aerodynamic test, in which there would have been very heavy acceleration. On an airfield runway, not a race circuit. I'm pretty certain that the Marussia has a fly-by-wire throttle, so that may have malfunctioned. It also requires left-foot braking (no clutch pedal) which the 2009 Renault would not have done. So if something went wrong, at such an early stage of her experience with such powerful cars, she may have been slow to react, may have reacted wrongly or misjudged her speed. Fortunately she will be in a position to tell the team what happened.

Nice try at a snark, Althea, but you missed. Again.
