In a discussion marked "elections, do they work?" the following GEM, posted by montmorency2 (there's already montmorency registered?) turned up:

in most of the towns Ihave lived in over the years, in the south, you could put a blue rosette on the devil himself and he would get in...and looking back, I seem to remember more tory donkeys than labour ones - however the present lot - after being handed the country on a plate - don't deserve any sympathy and they are obviously all "snouts in the trough" merchants as most governments have been since the war...I'm sure if any of the people who ran up the beaches of Normandy hoping to create a better world could see the UK now, they would not have gone...Monty

Perfectly reasonable post, until he covertly suggests that Britain might be better off now if the Nazis had won the war.

Disgusting, and I mean that genuinely. My father, who died a few days ago, was at Normandy, and remained to the end a Labour voter. He certainly wasn't uncritical of Labour, but he didn't go for this "it was all better in my day" bollocks. Presumably this bastard's choice of "since the war" was chosen with Attlee's 1945 landslide in mind, a government whose crowning achievement was the creation of the NHS. Snouts in the trough, indeed.

I love it when you get people saying "Everyone in social group X agrees with me about Y", because they're always wrong. I bet this person complaining about the country going downhill since the war was at most only little at the time, and quite possibly not even born. Even if ol' Monty had been a grown-up back then, I bet (s)he would have spent all that time complaining how things have been going downhill since [insert random date here] and that this Atlee fellow is no better than they've been for years.

ALERT! Thread entitled 'Richard lLittlejohn, hero' has started on the forums.

Should be fun to see what people think of him.

Well, why should someone out there not think of Littlejohn as a hero (although you would have serious doubts for their sanity)... after all there are plenty of websites equating Hitler with Christ and sites praising Mugabe, Stalin, Mao Tse Tung, Pinochet, Idi Amin etc. Even the crazed and the evil have their fans.

I do notice that nobody else seems to agree with wbodie, though.

I suspect wbodie is going through a nasty divorce and custody battle :(

They've deleted the thread now, the moderator has got to work this morning.

I have a mirror if anyone wonders what was so unacceptable the whole thread had to be pulled

However, if you make 'defamatory' comments about anyone in the Labour party or, in fact, anyone who isn't on the Daily Mail's payroll (there are a lot on the boards about Blair) you can expect them to stay.

I posted several messages on the 'reader's comments' news section of the Daily Mail concerning Prescott and the general state of the country, in which I didn't agree with the prevailing views of the other correspondents...yes - you guessed it! That makes about 20 unpublished in the last few months...out of about 20! I think that if you post an 'off-message' comment, you are forever banned. You can just imagine the regulars living in their little 'Blair stinks' bubble'..."Look darling, I posted a message about how Blair is trying to turn the country in the Somalia of Europe and how the third-world NHS is in terminal metdown...and look...EVERY OTHER POSTER AGREES WITH ME. How on Earth did Labour win the election....it must have been a giant fraud!"

Bumping an old and worthy thread here, for a comment on Heather Mills saying that 'Milk Gives You Cancer'.

Quote:
I agree with most of what Heather is saying (not sure about soya milk) and am glad someone high profile is raising the issue of milk relating to disease. It's not natural to drink the milk of another mammal, especially a mammal which we have nothing in common with. Cows milk is for calves not humans. Yes it contains calcium, but cows get their calcium from grass which is far more well balanced nutrionally than milk. Cows milk contains antibiotics, hormones and pus. What are we doing pushing this on to our kids as a healthy food?! It's pasteurisation and homogenisation processes further make it more unfit for human consumption.

- Jo, Tunbridge Wells

There you go. Cow's milk = Horrible, unhealthy crap. And as for Pasteurisation which kills off bacteria, that makes it even MORE unhealthy!

In other news, the lottery will kill us all.
Quote:
The horse bolted the day they legalised the lottery. Everybodies 1st bet is a small one and from that point on the stakes and frequency rise eventually the punter makes it through the Casino door or the internet portal. The so called Idiot Tax spawned a monster by reducing the initial financialpain involved in making your 1st bet from there its all downhill. Its too late to shut the stable door now.The puritans lost this one when they stuck their hands in the lottery pot.

- Bettina Rumble, Vienna Austria

Sorry, that should be the lottery has already killed us all.

Finally the Mail had a story called 'The Left sees sense on immigration'.

Quote:
If the left really saw sense, it would disband.

- Mr. J. Smith, Birmingham, England

In DM land, The Left is now actually a club, they host weekly meetings about political correctness, health and safety, how to smuggle in asylum seekers and also plot the elimination of Christianity and middle England.
