I remember a Daily Mash article from a few weeks ago, taking the piss out of the "unemployed? well just get a job and then you won't be" people.

It had a quote along the lines of 'Helen Archer, a single mother from Salford, said "Raising four kids in a bedsit on £80 a week has been a right laugh, but now it's time to stop the fun and knuckle down. I think I might be a hedge fund manager".

Aha: http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/soci ... 201244803/

It always bugs me with the "wah, benefits are really generous cries that the people saying it aren't quitting their jobs to get said benefits, that are apparently handed out on a silver platter.

A commentator on the Neville Thurlbeck blog (see link on NOTW hacking thread) made the very good point that an awful lot of disability benefits - grants to pay for house alterations to increase mobility for instance - don't really translate into disposable income. People aren't given bags of money, or even blank cheques. They're given specific amounts of money to spend on specific things. And quite often the work has to be done in advance and the money claimed back once complete. S the entire "X has claimed £20,000 over the last year" thing creates a false impression that they have just been given a lump sum to spend as they wish. They haven't.

Likewise poor families living in expensive areas. End of the day, a home's a home. Someone living on fuck all in the heart of Mayfair probably won't appreciate it at all, as the general cost of living (fuel, food etc) in that neighbourhood is going to be quite high. Whatever perceived advantages such a property would have (location, market value etc) mean nothing to the parent of 9 or whatever who's just glad to have a roof and four walls. Otherwise it's a bit like being on a desert island with a set of silver cutlery - fuck all use if you've nothing to eat.

First world living costs, third world wages. What could possibly go wrong? Thankfully, most of the comments seem to be fairly sensible.
You have to be a real cunt's cunt to write "Herewith ends the 'lesson'" in a newspaper comment. I'm shocked the pretentious bollock hasn't shoe-horned in a "methinks" or one of the other shibboleths that mark one out as a proper bellend.

"Judicious use of quotation marks" also. I literally cannot make head nor tail of this? Is he advocating communist slave labour or am I just tired?

Incredibly cruel and typical of the mailite defensive arrogance employed to protect those egoes of theirs, which, in turn, enables them to look down on other people.

The total inability to wag a finger at oneself while wagging it at others.

This actually comes from the Guardian

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree ... r-muhammad

Which features...

Quote:
On Mail Online, a reader identifying him or herself as D Acres of Balls Cross, West Sussex, posted the comment: "This man is disgusting. He should be taken out and put up on a cross. That would teach him not to disrespect this country and its Christian faith." Plainly a fine patriotic Christian, Outraged of Balls Cross.

"D Acres, Balls Cross, West Sussex"? Own up, please.

Is the Mail going to allow this charming couple to plug a far-right organisation with every comment they make?

But they're letting all sorts of shit through. And if you complain about the abusive ones nothing is done.

Surely they're not expecting loads of hits with their Yankee and Brit fucktards arguing like fuck over it? No, can't be.

They seem to be taking them down now. After they've been up for a good 20 mins - just enough time to get people riled up.

I refuse to believe that they have no idea what group that nane refers to, so what is their excuse for been so slow in removing them when they claim to be hardline against other simmilar groups.

Under an article about Alan Davies criticising Liverpool for nor playing on the anniversary of Hillsborough some idiot posed this comment.

Quote:
Why is it that the lower down the food chain the more likely you are to take offence? If you refuse to play on a point of principle, fair enough, forfeit the match.

It also looks like at least another 23 people agree with the sentiments.
