Those on high incomes, businessmen and millionaire investors would be exempt because the government believes they create jobs.

How is this any different from what they claim Labour did in encouraging 'likely Labour voters' - sweeping generalisations work both ways you know!

They also manage to miss the fact that the 'normal' people who have worked here for 5 years will pay far more tax than any of the 'investors' who for the purposes of income tax will likely 'live' in Switzerland anyway. Or make their millions by 'investing' in off-shoring and cutting jobs to increase profits.....

There was a point system before, based on skills needed etc.

If these rich people are so useful they can go through that test and pass with flying colours. Special treatment, bollocks.

The idea that Theresa May should take lessons from Labour on immigration is laughable

Nobody should underestimate the current scandal. We will never know how many Illegal immigrants, foreign criminals or worse strolled into the country unchecked.

Theresa May must fix the mess - and fast. There are - as she would be the first to admit - no excuses.

But the idea that she should take lessons from Labour is truly laughable.

Even more ludicrous is the idea that the public will ever again trust Labour to take control of the nation's borders.

The last government may have wrecked the economy: but they destroyed immigration controls altogether.

That will not be forgotten or forgiven.

Comments as you'd expect:

Fantastic articale and so true......now its up to Mrs May to stop dishing out British Passports for about 10 years or longer and IF nothing else renegotiating the rights of Europeans to have entry into our Country with all the BENIFITS that entails.........Then I will know, I, a socialist did the right thing in voting Conservative to get rid of Labour who above all others have ruined our Country, made it unrecognizable as being a white Christian Country in almost all of our large City's........MRS MAY you have the power, just do it!

Pales into insignificance to who was let in under Labour. When you weren't allowed to raise genuine fears or concerns. I can remember the race card being played when William Hague did voice ordinary's people's fears before Labour were elected in the late 90's. Didn't have to be university educated, just needed common sense to know what it meant for our children's and grandchildren's future. Even just before the last election, the scale of the problem, ignored on T.V. This Government has inherited a mess and if it doesn't make this a high priority to get sorted, funded so we have the border controls we should have, then they will have failed those who have waited and waited for action. Never mind committees, where many who failed us are now questioning Mrs.May. Or the B.B.C whose silence has been laughable over the years. I wish they'd have given Labour proper scrutiny, stood up to them. How safer we might have been.

Those immigrants! Here's Labour's outrageous policies!

asylum seekers- longstanding international commitment- still exist
student visas- existed before-. more of them because they pay high fees, and subsidise home students
family of British people- going to tell your readers they can't bring in their Thai brides?
free movement in EU- existed before, loads of British people use it to move abroad
skilled migrants- who let those fuckers in?!
illegal immigrants- existed before, now easier to do because of increased international trade. Stop every lorry coming in for hours, and see what that does for business.

So what you got? East London? Bradford? Leicester?

Almost all our large cities, indeed.

And those Europeans are white and Christian.

One of the paranoid right's articles of faith is that Labour in government "opened the floodgates"' "threw open Britain's doors", and even "abolished immigration controls". To listen to them, you'd think there were no immigration rules in force under Labour whatsoever. Which is of course, complete bollocks. The only immigration control I can recall Labour abolishing during its entire term of office was the Tories' racist primary purpose rule, that made it all but impossible for immigrants to be joined by their husbands or wives - and it was absolutely right to abolish it. But other than that, immigration controls operated normally, effectively, and humanely, in much the same way as they do now - except that they are tighter than before after Labour introduced the current Australian style points system towards the end of its term.

This particular article of faith is, like so many others, a total myth. but it's quite fascinating to see the way that the Mailtards recite it like some demented catechism.

Last time I was in Belfast it was distinctly recognisable as white and christian. It was in early July, a delightful time of year to visit. I even had the pleasure of seeing some smartly dressed gentlemen in the streets, charming passers-by with their music. Thankfully the curse of multiculturalism has not yet reached them or their joyous celebration.

Of course Abernathy, what Labour did is actually totally a red herring. Even if you belief that the last government opened the door wide (which of course I don't) it's your turn now you stupid little woman. Is she just going to go on forever ignoring everything because she thinks she can hide behind the "its not as bad as when we had Labour" crap.

Personally with tonights resignation and the guy basically saying "she lied" and all I did was do as I was told suggests much fun in the days ahead.

Jesus. He's shite. "Analysis".

Dealing with Britain would be straightforward, would it? So you mean we're going to implement the same stuff as they do anyway?

Any chance of explaining why the Lib Dems want to do the stuff you say? Or does "Europhile" explain it all?

I love the way it's the others who gang up on us. Rather than one side having more votes than the other.

Seeing Slack works for the Mail, he should know bullying when he sees it.

Old Sarko wants us out apparently. Not like most of your mates, James.

The biased BBC made it sound like the world had ended after Cameron's veto

Yet another lazy attack on BBC impartiality. Drip, drip goes the poison.
