So they don't want you to claim benefits, but they won't let you retrain in order to find a job either. And of course they aren't happy when the vacancy is filled by a qualified immigrant.

What's wrong with picking up the phone? Well, some people are not at their best on them. I loathe phone conversations because they're awkward and stilted and I always forget what I intended to say, and they always seem demanding. You! Talk now!
But if you don't like them, you're cold and soulless with no real friends. The ones you have on Facebook (who might all people you've met, some of whom live so far away as to be not regularly meetable, and the rest are those you see all the time IRL) are just facsimiles, mere cardboard friends with painted-on facades.
