I think wine is counted by the mailites as one of those 'I like the product but not the producers' type things
Real ale is a bit 'common', however, the 'feral underclass' prefer lager and industrial cider, plus most ale here is British, so depending on the snobbery of the mailite, it may be an acceptable drink (think along the lines of more modern ale producers such as Bath Ales rather than some traditional ale from Yorkshire with a long working class history)
