Interesting piece in today's Private Eye.
Apparently Brick has been filing articles with Femail for quite a while, only for her to be told that she's pretty much bottom drawer/crank file material. It seems her original article was very heavily subbed before it made the paper. The real impact was of course online, whch Dacre claims not to understand, but which sent Mail online site hits through the roof.
So, the Eye suggests that her surprise was at least partly genuine, and the entire exercise has been orchestrated by the Mail from the start.
Yes yes, we all suspected that some editing had been going on.
The fact remains though that like every other female who has written for them the lines that remain are still their own.
It's not as if any of the quotes taken from her article would read drasticaly differently if looked at within the piece itself, and indeed the whole article if read through in full shows this.
If she never really said any of these things, then you could have some sympathy for her. But she did, and even with the benefit of context her words read no better than before.
Only a fool with no media savvy at all would ever agree to write a piece for them, as they are the only type of person who doesn't know what they get up to.
You want money so bad that you'll take it from
them? Then bend over and take it - and don't act like you never knew it would happen once people start ripping you apart in the press and online. For some people, self respect and principles can't be covered by any cheque, she clearly isn't one of them.
Bye bye Mrs Brick, no sympathy for you here.
