Having checked the story in the Hastings Observer it would appear that the Mail reporter has lifted the story word for word.

I'm always sceptical about these stories when the subject is a writer or author because it just looks like an attempt at a bit of cheap self promotion. He claims that he will use fruit from the trees to make jam for local but surely it could be a good 10 years before any of those trees will produce any fruit.

I think this comment from the Hastings Observer gets to the heart of the issues.

Quote:
I admire anybody who stands up to these chancers but I believe you cannot grow any sort of tree on an allotment because when you relinquish the allotment somebody has the work of clearing the trees in order to return the ground to its intended use.

A poor effort.

That's why there's no sad face. She made a mistake, Santander rectified it. No story. No sadface.

Was she saving up for a decent haircut?

That's a good story for the Mail actually. This happened to me earlier this year by accidentally typing a couple of digits the wrong way round. Mine was only a relatively small amount but you'd think there would be some sort of system in place to deal with these sort of things, it's pretty easy to make a mistake typing in an 8-digit number. Fucking banks.

There is. it's called double checking what you've entered. And my sympathy with people who made that sort of mistake ran out years ago. Before I retired, too much of my time was taken up rectifying them.

Nah, I do think that's unduly harsh to be fair. It's dead easy to make a mistake when you're typing a longish number in, it would be a piece of piss to have a double-entry form like most websites do when you have to enter your email address.

Like I say, I only lost a small amount so put it down to my own carelessness, but it can't be right that a small typo can potentially cost someone £7000 surely, even though she got this back in the end. I'd expect the bank to be a bit more helpful with that sort of thing.

Ah, the lesser known right to grow trees on a council allotment clause.

it's perfectly acceptable to go to the echr for pathetic issues if you're white british, however if you are any other skin colour / nationality then it's a disgrace especially if it's something as petty as racial discrimination, unlawful detention or police brutality.

Jeremy Clarkson sadface time

'Britain is a nation of utter b*******': Jeremy Clarkson's fury at 'non stop tirade of abuse' following tweet about death of beloved dog

Image

Losing a pet is always sad, but I think I just suffered an irony overload from Jeremy Clarkson having a moan about people saying inflammatory, insensitive things.

Yes losing a pet is sad, but so is having your loved ones shot for taking part in a lawful Trade Union dispute or a fox being deliberately run over by a twat in a 4x4.

And, of course, there's none of Jeremy's impish racism in the name of the dog.

Sweet, sweet irony. Noted that at one point there, Jezza opined that this would not happen in America. (Why is America always the perfect yardstick for whingeing right-wing fucknuggets that don't like it up 'em?)

Is it too much to hope for that he will fuck off to America for good to test his hypothesis?
