It's even better than that, it's also 'Thin woman drives big car'. Wow, how fucking incongruous. The wee lamb ought to be in the passenger's seat, surely.

No, no, no, she should be draped across the bonnet wearing a bikini.

Can you Spock the difference? John Travolta bears more than a passing resemblance to Star Trek's finest as he walks the red carpet in Berlin

You're joking of couse!? There isn't an ounce of resemblence between leonard nimoy and john travolta. Travolta's face is much fatter also Nimoy is much better looking.

Single mother goes shopping.

I suspect his grandfather and a few of his great uncles will be coming up with similar excuses.

Woman wins age discrimination case against her employer but then wonders why she's passed up on future discussions!

What does she expect. If she'd won a case against me, I wouldn't have even employed her second time around because she would have been totally unsuitable for the job. But then they did give her another contract, and if being likened to a TV character is the highlight of her latest 1800 word complaint then more fool the BBC for even giving her a 2nd chance.

Sorry, wasn't sure whether to put this in the Mail vs BBC thread, the sad-faced thread or this thread.

It belongs in none of them.

It's a sad bloody state of affairs when pregnant women are spending time worrying about the weight they are putting on while pregnant - bloody sad.

Although I blame the new everything-is-a-competition pushy pretentious women as much as the media for this. If they could have cameras instaled in their uteri to see which of them has the most pretty and clever looking feotus they would, nothing is beyond judgement for some of them.

Those attitudes are very, very much framed and driven by the media though. The generation you're talking about probably came of age in the supermodel era, and they are Thatcher's children — the first generation of women expected to 'have it all', as the cliché goes. They're in many ways pioneers, negotiating obstacles and contradictions in modern womanness that previous generations had never even thought about, and doing so in a broadly reactionary political environment without much institutional or ideological support. There's a terrible amount of anxiety and uncertainty involved in being a pioneer — is it any wonder they feel the need for Vogue's approval before leaving the house without make-up on?
