Racist incidents still happen, and every one is regrettable, but if I wanted to hear racism I'd go to a lot of places before a football match. You only notice ripples when the pond is still.

Look at it this way, OK. I've got a few old Star Wars figures. Is my Lando Calrissian figurine racist? No.

On the other hand, is a figurine with jet black skin, frizzy hair, blood-red thick lips and goggly eyes racist? Yes. Not least because of all the DM readers going on about how much they love them precisely because of the reaction the dolls elicit. A bit like how if the Dambusters film gets remade, the only important thing to them is the name of the dog. Not the accurate depiction of a WW2 bombing raid. Not the physics and movement of the bomb. Not the aftermath of the raid and the effects of the bomb. Just the name of the dog.

Which tells me that they're the sort of people who like to see caricatures of black people known to cause offence/hear names for black people known to cause offence. Which tells me a little about them.

Oh, and nice use of the granny defence. Grannies remember them. Everyone likes grannies. Therefore whatever grannies like must be good. Yeesh!
