Came across this story on another forum and it covers so many Mail categories I wasn't sure where to put it so started my own!

Its pointless, nasty, has a headline that over-sensationalises what the "story" actually is, and going by the comments the Mail has misread its readers.

Basically the widow of a soldier kills in action has sex with other men after his death and doesn't want to advertise the fact to her husbands family.

What a vile, poisonous story. How the hell is this anybody's business? If the Father-in-Law took this to the Mail then he is a twat, but no responsible paper would then say "great! Let's publish!"

So father-in-law objects to her behaviour, runs to the Mail, she gets villified, life in ruins etc etc etc.




Y'know one of the issues when trying to trace the stories men on WW1 war memorials is that their widows often remarried within a year or two. Loneliness, the need for a companion to help look after children, financial need, all played a part. And, of course, for some it was a release from an unhappy marriage.

And it was nobody else's fucking business.

Story is receiving a monstering in the comments, which agree that it's her private life, should not be reported as news, and the description of "affairs" is also highlighted.

This is an excellent example of another angle that Leveson should focus on.
Prurient gossip with vulnerable people being names, shamed, and (depending on how you view the "affairs" bit) libelled.

I'd like to see a lawyer take this and run with it..

Vilest comment on there, and one that is typically Mail mindset:

It obviously didn't for a moment occur to this Grade A cunt that she might have done her best to look good precisely so as to honour her husband's memory. Or because it helped her own morale. Or in fact that it was absolutely no-one's business but hers.

I actually saw the comment, thought about posting it and then decided to make a cup of tea instead. Not because it was not worth posting though, I think I just didn't want to think about people who hold such views any further.

It reminded me of people I've known that I didn't want reminding of.
