Fifty shades of fake: A real-life submissive hits back at 'stereotypical' novel and opens up about life as sex slave

'I have a phenomenal sex life!' says Khloe Kardashian as she reveals she prefers watching porn to reading 50 Shades of Grey

Every day the papers (not just the Mail, although i wouldn't be surprised if they were the worst for it) seem to have articles claiming that the success of "50 Shades..." proves that all modern women are raging mad sex addicts, glued to their kindles on public transport while salivating and probably masturbating when nobody's looking, clearing the shelves at Ann Summers, shagging like crazy and looking for a sex-mad lover.
Oddly enough, when "Twilight" was successful, the papers were saying it was proof that all modern women wanted to join the Silver Ring Thing as a rebellion against "our sexualised culture" and were shy, unsure, fainting creatures, not remotely interested in sex, and only liked Victorian boys with no interest in it either.

Standard bandwagon-jumping. It's one of the reasons journalists hate the Internet, because Internet humour tends to be streets ahead of them. And funnier. Journalists like to present themselves as cutting edge opinion formers, but in reality they're constantly playing catch up - a bit like the guy in the pub passing off as his own the joke you heard two months ago.

Meanwhile Private Eye has started a "50 Shades of balls" column for the most egregious shoehornings.

As my Mother pointed out the other day - a sure-fire way to kill any latent interest in erotica is to imagine Jan Moir or Liz Jones lying in bed reading *that* tome. Thanks, Mum.

Anyone remember the Mail's crotch-shrivellingly bad attempt to do a "Sex and the City" sequel?

I wonder what Jasper Fforde thinks of it.

I enjoyed his Shades of Grey.

It had less submissive sex slavery though.

Urgh. Reading that first one annoyed me. It's like all the theological 'experts' who came out of the woodwork to slaughter The Da Vinci Code.

Yes, it's not entirely, 100% accurate.

THAT'S.
WHY.
IT'S.
IN.
THE.
FICTION.
SECTION.

Well it wasn't 100% accurate. It wasn't even 10% accurate.

And it wasn't just theology 'experts' but historical 'experts', art 'experts' and scientific 'experts' that attacked the Da Vinci Code.

And yes, it was in the fiction section, but Dan Brown claimed that all the facts in it bar the story were totally accurate.

And pedants. He should always be refered to as Leonardo - to differentiate him from any other fucker that just happens to hail from Vinci.

Do the shades of grey refer to underpants?
