Yeah Pete Townsend just looks silly his body is way out of porportion(sic), the clown meanwhile probably represents the Unions as they bailed out Labour this time.

And why did they take their dog? No supermarket would allow a dog in store, so did they tie it up outside three different supermarkets?

perhaps the large-chested woman (who looks suspiciously like Gordon Brown in a wig) pretended to be blind, in another example of ASBO Britain Gone To The Dogs (This Time Literally !!!)

What does that actually mean?

Ok, so Brown may be past his sell-by date, metaphorically speaking, I'll give that to the cartoonist, and sell by dates are something to do with food and shopping, but why the fuck would someone being past their sell by date lead to them advising people not to waste food?

To prevent other stuff exceeding its sell by date? Maybe, but that's not really funny, if you think about it, since Brown would be doing everyone, including the potentially out of date food a favour by encouraging this.

I reckon the only way that a gag like this can possibly work is if the subject of the joke (Brown in this case) has a vested interest in encouraging other people to be like him (i.e. to be beyond their metaphorical sell by dates). And that's not what's happening here.

Fail. 3/10 for recognising that there's a device here to be used, but failing to use it correctly.

Are the tesco and asda bags vibrating, or is it that he just couldn't be arsed to draw the text straight.

I do love this whole food issue.

Government: "Don't waste food. It wastes your money and there are people going hungry"
DE & DM Readers: "Fuck you. Who are you to advise us anything. You know what, I'm gonna waste even more food. Yeah that'll show you."

Stupid cunts.

mind you, the last one's not as dreadful as the rest - it's almost, in fact, amusing. or perhaps that's a perverse form of cartoon stockholm syndrome setting in.

Notice how everything is vibrating bar the traffic

I like the idea of a "I read the Daily Express" traffic lane, which syphons off around Dover and goes off the top of the cliff

I bet he spends ages drawing those. They are detailed.

Shame they're just not funny. Or make even the slightest sense in most cases.

That's what I was thinking! Paul Thomas thinks there's a link between Brown being past his sell-by date and him recommending that people don't waste food and goes on to make a 'joke' about it. 3/10 indeed.

Of the cartoons from the archive, the Nazi logo one is perhaps the funniest. At least it made me smile, but what event does it refer to?

I found the 'get in lane' one almost amusing. There's also a vintage Bedford van in the middle lane, the likes of which I heven't seen since the 'seventies.

I think it is what is known in the trade as a 'joke' KW though not a very good one i will admit
