Like Althea's mother, Express Readers are blissfully unaware of what it takes to be a doctor.

I was chatting to my GP about stress recently (how I'm not since I retired) and remarked that I feel a fraud talking about responsibility-stress to someone who could make a simple mistake and cause someone's premature death, when the worst I could do was cause them to have to retake an exam (an exaggeration, but not by much - teachers deal with life-threatening situations too, but not every day).
She smiled, but the smile was wan.

I think medical professionals are, in the huge majority, quite exceptional people, both in their sense of duty and care and in their willingness and ability to shoulder decisions and responsibilities that most people never come close to in their entire lives - and do it many times a day. One profession of which I am in awe.

Journos are pissed off because they know the tee times will be booked on that day.

Mostly because they are utterly ignorant of the real world as it is, and they think that everyone is as mentally limited and dull as they are. They are, in the phrase, so stupid that they don't realise they're thick.

It's the cloying dullness of the over-promoted middle manager.
The stupidity that sees no alternative and drags all down around him.
And blames it on them.

The arch-enemy of both common-sense and bulldog-spirit.

Give it a couple of months and every pub will install a bore who begins:

That's a general mantra on any subject, ever, for those papers...

I think it was Bulldog Drummond who described his brain of being 'of the also-ran variety', and considered that a good thing.

See also the way the tabloid press/media in general treat anyone with any sort of skill, knowledge or interest outside a very narrow group* (or maybe just the fact the person wears glasses), as a sure sign the possessor is sad, nerdy, geeky, a wonk, wrong'un etc.

Doesn't Al Murray the pub landlord say something like that?

'Twas farted out of Richard Desmond's arse, methinks.

Do they guess what the government will do next based purely on whatever toss they hear someone say on Question Time?

Flying EDL colours at the bottom. That's a bit extreme for a bunch of doddering old twits.

The gory details from the headlines are usually on their website. Free pinch of salt not included.
