The Mail has described a proposal from Redditch Borough Council to use heat generated by a crematorium to heat a swimming pool as 'sick'.

However, they seem to have misjudged their readership on this one, who are not a sentimental bunch, as we already knew. At this stage virtually every comment is supportive of the scheme.

Well, almost ...

Perhaps councils would have more money for services if they paid themselves less in the way of salaries and pensions. Anyone remember the film 'Soylent Green'? It was about the processing of dead bodies to produce a flavoured paste as food for the poor, repressed and overpopulated citizens of a future 'state'. Does anyone else see that coming ...?

No.

I remember a similar reaction a few years ago to a scheme in which you could bury a dead relative in your garden. On the upside, you've got granny around forever, her body decomposes and nourishes the ground, it saves on cemetery space and it's cheap. On the downside, Aaaaarggh! It's a dead body!!!

Bit like the objection to Halal meat (see the Littlejohn thread) on the grounds that throat-cutting is involved. In many ways they really show themselves up to be a bunch of squeamish, mawkish tossers.

The top-rated comments seem to be too sensible, what have they done with the real DM readers?

I bet the editor/journalist has egg on his face now as their attempt to scaremonger has backfired.

Perhaps the lower council tax bill trumps the "yuck/outrage" factor.
