Apparently Moir's Stephen Gately article is legal because:

Tony Connell, CPS London complex casework lawyer, said: "In coming to this conclusion I have paid particular attention to Article 10 of the Human Rights Act which protects individuals' freedom of expression.

"It is an established legal principle that this freedom applies equally to information and ideas that are favourably received as to those which offend, shock and disturb.

"Though the complainants and many others found this article offensive, this does not make its publication unlawful."

I wonder how many other Mail columnists are safe behind the protection of the Human Rights Act?

Bloody do-gooders.

To avail yourself of yuman rights you must first be provably yuman.

She should have every legal right to be allowed to dig as deep a hole as she likes for herself with her poisonous drivel. Hopefully it'll cost the Mail a few readers (although I'm not holding my breath  )

Will be interesting to see reaction if the Mailites are told that.

"Bloody yuman rites act only there so they can defend criminals, bloody disgrace...oh, what? Er..."

Right that's it. Next time there's any article or columnist slagging off or scorning the human rights act throw this back in their faces. Maybe use this thread as an alert for such stories? It would be thoroughly deserved.

The Mail have decided to trump about it on the website.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... d-PCC.html

Comments are being moderated but thankfully those defending Moir are getting a kicking.

I've tried this one, had to be subtle without actually naming names:

Here's a question: the Chairman of the PCC's Editors' Code of Practice Committee also happens to be the editor of which national newspaper? Have a guess.

I went for the PCC rather than the Mail.

The PCC has proved once again that it it is ineffectual and a laughing stock. If it is unable to follow it's own guidelines what is the point of it.
