Ooh, free lemonade! This wouldn't be a bit of promotion of a new product by any chance? I'm sure the Express is above all that, what with its traditional values and all.

How can they afford to keep giving campervans away?

Because they don't. It will be done on some sort of raffle arrangement - if anyone just happens to get a 'winning ticket' they buy a van and give it to them, based on an insurance policy you took out against that possibility. The odds will be stacked very well in the Express' favour.
That's how primary schools have raffles with Ford Fiestas as prizes.

The alternative is to get people to phone or text, calls cost £1+. If 25,000 greedy Expressos phone in, you're in the black. That's how 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire' ran at a profit.

Thanks for that. I should have thought it through properly, because given the sheer number of campervan competitions, the length of time they've been doing them, and the lowly circulation of the Express, there has to be something fishy going on. If these competitions were kosher, every Express reading household would have a camper on the drive by now. :)

Force them to award rollover campers.

The Greggs giveaway week rumbles on. I particularly like the daily models posing with various pastries and sandwiches. I'd love to have seen the model's face when her agent called to say he'd finally found some modelling work.

Frankly, the Express needs to up its free gift game, as surely the DM is going to lure a few of their readers with this gem:
