I loved Dark Knight in the 80s, but its author, possibly the most esteemed American comics writer of the late 20th Century, has turned out to be just another American right wing loony (no offence to Americans or those with mental health issues).

The reaction has been heartening, but I remain sad.

Not just a misogynist or Islamophobe then. Incredible amount of drivel though. Which is disappointing as I enjoyed his Batman and occasional glances into the world of Sin City.

Even Michael Winner backed the Occupyers today (If indeed his Twitter account is the actual Michael Winner).

To be fair, if you look at his output, he's always been obviously right-wing (the macho, individualist, fuck-you-get-out-of-my-way-you-pussy kind), but I thought he was a bit more intelligent and nuanced than his rant. That was the sort of thing you expect from a particularly dense Tea Party type.

Yes, push the geek stereotype, that's really going to endear a comic-book writer to his fans.

A real shame, since he was a comic-book writer whose works I generally quite liked.
Still, at least Neil Gaiman hasn't done anything incredibly awful yet.

It's probably best not to look up the political affiliations of too many people you like. For example: John Malkovitch. Great actor, but has been described as "so Republican you think he's joking, but he isn't".

I'm reminded of the recent revelation that Russell Grant is not a lovely cuddly big poof, but a hateful Tory to be denounced and despised.

I've cried myself to sleep every night since.

I'm surprised at how disappointing I find that. One simply doesn't imagine very right wing people having a creative bone in their body.

How about Osborne's Excuse Book?

No mention of Russell Grant can pass without this, from The Mary Whitehouse Experience Encyclopaedia (1991):

Quote:
Astrology
A belief in astrology is based on two premises:

1. That a small handful of the infinite number of gravitational masses of cosmic gas, billions of light years away across the universe, exert a direct influence on the lives and financial opportunities of one of the 50 million species of carbon-based life forms on one planet, in one solar system in one galaxy.

2. That the best person to interpret this effect is Russell Grant.

The case against astrology seems formidable. For example, six national dailies print predictions for each starsign and all six are completely different. Still, Nancy Reagan believed in it, so it must be true.
