Just trying to help...

That was just a general request and not directly aimed at anyone (would have P'Md otherwise)

Apropos of nothing much, I've totally lost track of what's happening in this forum. It's like taking a stroll through a several-hundred-room argument centre.

I know, it's like that Monty Python sketch: "would you like the five minute argument or the full half hour?"

Seriously, its getting tiresome that so many threads are degenerating into arguments between people who are here because of a shared agreement - dislike of the right wing press.

I propose Mailwatchers adopt an initiative along the lines of that great 20th century philosopher John Major and get "back to basics". Mailwatch with large dollops of levity and humour. :)

I reckon more of us need to avoid responding to some of the obvious attempts to provoke a response that some of the protagonists in these arguments are using.

He/she/they are so obvious it's embarrassing at times, chucking in a word or comment that they know people will jump on, even if it has no direct connection to the topic in question.
But some people are still going for it.
I'm going to ignore it (I will give one response if they say something that directly links to something I've said, but will not engage them beyond that), but as I really like this forum it's really beginning to annoy me.
(Some very old topics with no recent responses have recently been dug up by said person/s for this purpose, which I think is always a good indication of an idiot spoiling for a rumble).

Don't give them the satisfaction. Just as they have nothing better to do, we have better things to do than boost their egos by making them think we have fallen for their fake online personalities.

Personally i think too many topics are appearing in the main three Mail sections which may be better off in Serious Discussion.

I'm also getting sick of people going around trolling for trolls. If you think someone is a troll, just ignore them, don't egg them on then report them for being a troll!

Oh, and one other thing.
THIS ISN'T a English spelling and grammar forum, its a forum about media manipulation of the truth (or at least it used to be), people sometimes make typos, I myself am mildly dyslexic, CUT THEM SOME SLACK!

Agreed. I've mentioned that on the Forum Board. Is it possible for the mods in those instances to move them there whenever they notice it happening? You did it with the "God" thread, Mr M, moving it from a discussion on the LJ thread. That worked well.

I agree 100%. It should be clear to anyone if somebody has made a simple typing error or not, and as you say, there are many good reasons why someone might make mistakes more frequently (like dyslexia, or if English isn't their first language).

I'm sure Lynne Truss and her irritating kind have forums of their own for smugly and self-righteously looking down their noses at the likes of us mere mortals. If anyone wants to engage in such pompous finger-wagging they should go there and join her.

The debate forum idea sounds good, and it would free up some of the topics that have become bogged down with one argument recently, and free them up for other people to carry on contributing other ideas under the topic heading (seriously, some have been going on on one thing for days now).

I'm very aware of dyslexia, thanks. I'm also averse to pomposity and people who don't much bother...

But what do I know - I'm a twat.

And you thought was referring directly to you why?

I replied to Mr Mordon's post, there was no mention of any specific person, only over-zealous grammar and spelling criticism in general.

I can only (drumroll, maestro, please) speak for m'self...

But in general I'd only correct the spelling of someone who

a) clearly isn't dyslexic, and
b) has been a bit of an arse
