WHY DOES BRITAIN GRIND TO A HALT AFTER A ROAD TRAGEDY?

THE heart of Britain’s motorway system was plunged into chaos when a Hell’s Angel was shot dead on his moving motorbike.

And as a 24-hour logjam built up on the M40, questions were being asked about whether the police are acting too drastically in stopping all traffic in major incidents.

and the last paragraph

He was named by friends last night as Gerrard Tobin, 35, who was born in Canada or the US, and had been living in Britain for some years.

Nice, this journo can't even be bothered to find out where he came from.

The story was written by Martin Stote.
Is this journo for real, I mean its a crime scene the police need to gather evidence. I'd like to see what the Express's stance would have been if a pretty blonde* had been shot and the police re-opened the road within a couple of hours. But it was a hairy biker and an immigrant so that's ok then!

*or if it had been Mercedes crashing in a motorway tunnel

It's not exactly a typical road accident, is it? And it wasn't Britain that ground to a halt, it was one motorway.

Apparently they're looking for a green Rover 620 in the Leamington Spa area... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1998-ROVER-620-SI ... 0141915557

Dun dun dun!

Absolutely, Britain is the South. The journalist who wrote this story must be a right old plum. If someone is shot on a motorway, then surely the right thing to do is close it to collect evidence? Closing a motorway after an incident such as this can't be completely unprecedented, so I think that the police did the right thing. The Daily Abcess are as wrong about things as ever. Duh.

A bit of rural motorway near Gayden. Nobody used the M40 before they stuck service stations on it.

Yes, it is strange - Portugese police don't seal off an entire town to look for forensic evidence is bad, British police do seal off a bit of road for a few hours to look for forensic evidence is also bad.

A double standard? Surely not in the Express!!
