The EU does allow for Sweden and Finland to operate a government owned monopoly on drinks above a certain alcoholic proof (it's called Systembolaget in Sweden) so to claim that a minimum price for alcoholic beverages is against EU competition rules might not be able to fully stand.

And now Pastygate!!
Cameron claims that he's pasty eater. Today he said that he recently bought one from The West Cornwall pasty Company at Leeds station. It emerges that there hasn't been one there for years.

Nope, but it's still in the city centre, I believe.

I'd be surprised if there weren't a pasty place there.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on that.

I'm going on what Channel 4 news has just said. Their research may be wrong of course but if it is, then so is The West Cornwall Pasty Company's own website which also says there isn't one.
According to Network Rail there was a branch there but it closed on the 31 March 2007.

He meant that he once met a man who ate a pasty.

It's good to see Cameron continues to the lead by example in terms of incompetence.

If I was a Tory I'd being praying they'd all just keep their mouths shut. Every time one of them speaks they make another gaff (even more than usual I mean).

He means that some of his best friends are pasty eaters.

Was the pasty eater a gay black man outside a mosque? And was he on his way to the piss dungeon?

Not quite. It was a black man, he was aged 40 and spent 30 years in the Navy.

Well he bought another one at that station, maybe. Or maybe another station.

It's not worth bothering with. Not now, above all. He'd love it to have us all worrying about where he last ate a pasty.

I can't tell whether you're taking it seriously- apologies if I misjudged.
