That and they've stopped the nonsense of CDs being exported to Jersey and re-imported free of VAT. Apparently £200m brought in this way.

So we've two good policies in the whole thing?

Too easy. This would fit into any columnist.

Anyone seeing anything more to it than a few meagre crumbs (Tax-free allowance, penny of fuel) already swallowed by previous rises? Apart from some big-sounding but ultimately minimal populist crap about taxing oil firms and private jets.

I'm currently rather annoyed with their changes to Housing Benefit, which - by not just restricting me to the bottom 30% of rentals in terms of LHA, but restricting me to the shared room rate for social housing until after I'm 35 - has just probably kicked any chance I had of moving into my own place again in the near future to pieces.

The oil windfall tax won't last much longer. It's a nice lefty top trumps that oil companies v Osborne. It was a baffling tax because apparently you can't put a penny on tax without business decamping to Dubai. So putting 12p on tax was likely to bring forth some response.

I expect some kind of allowances for developing new fields will be quietly brought in.

Will you be watching? I'm not sure I can stand it, though there's also the temptation to play Budget bingo (e.g., how many times will Osborne blame Labour)

he is ABOLISHING pensioner tax allowances meaning more will pay more taxes in the long run. Very cloak and dagger.

We're going to have the lowest corporation tax anywhere in the world in a few years.

Watching Gideon now. Just seeing Beaker there on the front bench makes me long to be present in the visitors gallery with a sten gun.

But the Sten's really inaccurate - you might hit everyone on the government front bench...

Oh...

Gideon's always been fairly open about his admiration for the Irish model, tbf.
